What kills me about the HD channels is how many of the commericals are in HD! lol
But when they're not, ugh! It looks like a low quality JPEG.

Tim if you score an HD DVD player for $75 it's worth it for the DVD upconverting alone. Then if you score some HD DVD's for $10-$15 that's a bonus just to get a taste of hidef but you don't have to build up a huge library. Just get a couple until you get a bluray player or whatever and don't worry if the HD DVD player dies, you will be able to get one on amazon, craigslist, ebay, etc for YEARS to come.

Next you're going to wanna get a new receiver to enjoy Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD.

tim,

at wal-mart, you can get an hd-a2 or an hd-a3 for $75.

at amazon.com, hd dvd/dvd combo discs are now cheaper than or almost the same price as their sd-dvd-only counterparts. for example, "michael clayton" is $16.99 on sd dvd, $18.99 on hd dvd, and $23.95 on blu-ray. you can watch the hd dvd for many years to come, but if your hd dvd player dies, then you can still watch the sd dvd side.

there is no fear as long as you stick with buying combo discs.

Eddie,

Oooh! "The Kingdom", 3/4 was filmmed 10-miles from my house! It cracked me up when I watched it as I noticed most of it was filmmed around Williams Field Airpark -- Plus they built this elaborate set there(the part in the movie where the explosion happens and creates a big hole in the ground -- yeah, that was the movie set I drove by for several months).

Well, I have a Super Wal*mart 3-miles from me. I'll go up there in a few and see if they have any in stock.

Tim

PS. My reaction to my new TV:

Sorry "Eddie", I'll be here for awhile yet

And as I said, unless Tim wants some HD DVD titles he cannot wait for on Blu-ray, I wouldn't spend even $20 on a player to needlessly take up another HDMI port for nothing. He's an HD newcomer, and a year ago I would have advised him to go both Blu-ray and HD DVD to get the best choices in new releases. It was kind of a no-brainer. But now HD DVD is an obsolete format. Everything released from here on is on Blu-ray, like it or not. And as I know you're a true HD DVD fanboy, I know you hate it. But too freakin' bad for you fanatics.

To buy an HD DVD player just for the sake of getting HD movies cheap is not a good idea. HD is like an investment. You don't spend money on something that the industry has already turned it's back on. Tim has already stated that he has a new upconverting player so that would elimimate any need to buy on HD DVD player for upconversion. Like Sykhwk said and I agree 100%, HDMI inputs are at a premium on electronics. If you run out of inputs something has to get bumped.

I only have 2 HDMI inputs on both my HDTV and my ONKYO receiver. Being as though I only have 2 HDMI sources (PS3 and cable) they are both occupied. If push came to shove since cable has a max resolution of 1080i, I could use component straight to the TV. I think Blu ray is a much better choice. HD DVD is gone and soon it will be harder and more expensive to get those hard to find players to back up the one you have and movies to watch them on.

I picked up a HDMI switcher from "Slavemart" for like 60 bucks. And it works flawlessly. Here let me give you that info, hold on, gotta dig the box out of the basement.

Alright here we go. Keep in mind that I was very sceptical of this product. It WORKS!

JOYTECH HDMI TRILINK SWITCHER
