Yeah it seems that the PS3's DVD upconversion is it's weakest attribute (aside from the cosmetic design) but it still makes a good bluray player. I just wish they were cheaper!

Bad decision also on you ruling out the PS3.
Actually, NOT a bad decision considering the games available are so been-there-done-that. Plus, as some have stated, not exactly the best wiht upconverting SDs. So, not really worth the $400 they want for the machine. Besides, I am still a firm believer that certain items were desinged to do specific things. Just because a PS3, which is first and foremost a "GAME CONSOLE", can play Brooo-ray does NOT make it the best as a stand alone player (and don't get me started as I've already heard the "coffin of death" storys from a few of you). I would much rather get a stand alone Blu-player because that's what it is "specifically" designed for.

Hey Tim, you seem like a cool guy. I live in Avondale AZ. I have a spare HD-A1 that I'm not using at this moment if you want to experience the HD DVD experiment I don't mind letting you borrow it to see for yourself.

Tim.
Sorrry bud but I have to disagree w/you again. The PS3 is an A+ BLU-RAY player pretending to be a game console. The games will come dude, and once they do...I guess I'll be enjoying them and you won't. But "hey", dont feel alone with your opinions about the system, Home Theater did say this...
"Some enthusiasts BALK at putting a game console in their home theater system. I PITY them the SACRIFICES they'll have to make to stick to that."
BTW- I ran into your set at CC yesterday. VERY NICE!

I enjoy enough games on my multimedia gaming computer, which will knock the socks off of any game console out there. The PS3 has had how long now to get their shit togther and get a library of OMG games? Is it a little over a year now, or has it been longer, I forget?
Again, coffin of death, lame games, lame upconverting is enough for me to stay away.
I respect the effort to try and get me to change my mind, though.

The PS3 isn't that bad with upconverting standard DVDs, at least better than my HD-A2. Then again, I'm not exactly comparing apples to apples since the A2 cannot upconvert to 1080p.

They have been focusing on blu-ray, hello. And blu-ray is new. Game makers don't have it figured out YET. But once they do....They have a 50 gb disc to play with! Surely you are not blind to the possibilities of that! Also, playing games it not the same on a computer,(don't care what,or powerful) as it is on a HUGE screen with HUGE sound. But you go ahead and do what you have to do,it's your cash.

you can hook up a computer to a huge monitor, too. heck, you can hook up a computer to a projector and play first-person shooters on your entire wall. your argument is baseless.

When I first got my last projector, I decided to temporarily bring my computer downstairs and tried playing Half-Life 2 on it. 130 inches of pure glory. It was so good, that I just cant play console games sorry to say, and I`ve seen the XBox 360 and PS3 big games. Gosh, I think I need an HTPC.
