I can't really think of any film that means life or death to me.

But if you mean a favorite movie, there are plenty: Casablanca, Citizen Kane, The Godfather I & II, The Third Man, 2001, Star Wars, The Wizard of Oz, Dr. Strangelove, Snow White, Fantasia, Pinocchio, A Night at the Opera, Some Like It Hot, To Kill a Mockingbird, M. Hulot's Holiday, Psycho, Cabaret, Day for Night, The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Maltese Falcon, The Big Sleep, The Music Man, The Outlaw Josey Wales, The Haunting (1963), The Uninvited, True Lies, Contact, Moonstruck, Cool Hand Luke, Alien, Dark City, Devil in a Blue Dress, My Fair Lady, The Treasure of the Sierra Madre, Singin' in the Rain, Stardust, Pan's Labyrinth, and about a thousand more. Or not-so-guilty pleasures like Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, The Ghost Breakers, and Them!

OK, make it 'Casablanca."

How could I not? The Wife-O-Meter and I stood in line for the first showing of "Star Wars" on the first day it opened in San Francisco's old Coronet Theater (which Lucas said at the time was his favorite theater for sound, so it's where he premiered it). I loved it then, and I love it now.

It's A Wonderful Life (it was an old family tradition to watch this as a kid) Christmas Vacation (this is a new family tradition) and The Polar Express ( this was the first Holiday movie me my daughter and my wife saw together at the theater, it is very touching for me due to my daughter)

Can you tell that I am a Christmas freak!!!!

Happy Holidays 7 months early. LOL

I also like "Die Hard," but the newest "Live Free or Die Hard" is funnier, just as exciting and far-fetched, and in Blu-ray boasts one of the best soundtracks (DTS-HD MA) of any disc around.

The "Tunnel Scene" in Die Hard 4 (as it is known in other countries) is my go to demo scene. Spectacular scene. Looks real, Sounds real, Feels real. Unlike CGI drivel. Now if they could only do something about the ending....(C'MON)

Sounds good, John. I'll have something to look forward to when I get a Blu-ray player that will actually play it.

Raiders of the Lost Ark -- First bigtime movie that I remember seeing with my father vividly. Man was it a surprise in all its awesomeness. Back then people didn't see action in movies until the last 20 to 30 minutes of the movie typically. That movie was loaded and didn't let you take a breath, lol.

T2 as well. Best movie Arnie ever did. Empire Strikes Back plus those would make my trifecta of number 1 movies.

Star Wars or Empire Strikes Back. Star Wars is the first movie I ever saw on a theatre (imagine that for a sec) when I was around 8 years old. It absolutely blew my mind. Imagine at 8 years old that first scene with the humongous, white Imperial ship that goes on and on. Empire Strikes Back is such an incredible sequel that I can't pick between the 2.

Barring those two movies I would say Shawshank Redemption.

I don't know? This is pretty tough . . . I think I'm going to have to go with "Final Fantasy" on this one!

Oh please. Seriously Tim, if you're whole DVD collection had to be taken away and you were only allowed to keep ONE movie, which would it be?

The Empire Strikes Back...or T2...

Oh, btw, it's Die Hard 4.0 ... and for as much as I enjoyed that great astonishing popcorn blockbuster, what was the freakin plot?? I mean, seriously, things made sense, but come on, the jet scene towards the end in the highway?!? Like Michael Scott said, they are making McClane [?] look more like Superman...nothing happens to him! Nothing, really, NOTHING...

"Up the Creek". I know this is not a classic but I loved it when I first saw it and now I cannot find it anywhere. It is not on DVD and the only version you can get is on VHS, and I have a copy. Tim Matheson is hilarious and kinda reminds me of Animal House on a river.
If I lost my copy, it would suck.
I am still trying to find "Big man on Campus" and "Caveman".

Uhhhhhh. Die Hard 4.0

Harbodies (I forgot all about that one. But the "innerchild" sure didnt )

I was 5 when I saw Star Wars on the bigscreen. So I don't have to "imagine it". It was life changing. And I have a very large collection of collectibles to prove it!

Dawn of the Dead-watched that last night! I love the mall. It reminds me of the good ol' days.

Shawshank-seen that one atleast 20 times...

Ultraviolet-love it too . Milla is so hot! The blu-ray is a blast...

I agree with Falcon...

STAR WARS (1977) for my choice!

Not just for the movie's story, SpFx, etc, but I love music, and the John Williams score is one of the best I've ever heard for any movie. And he's delivered great scores many, many times since.

Hendrix, imagine how good the John Williams score will sound on bluray with a Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD audio track!

I imagine the lightsabers and everything else will sound amazing also

Nevertheless, the choice of "Star Wars" is almost cliche, to say the least. Perhaps a little too Master of the Obvious!
