These are nice players but pricey at $599 and $799. Now the HD DVD is gone, it looks like, for the time being, we can forget about new Blue ray players in the range of $199 to $299.

True, but Pioneer normally is a High-End brand. I was actually surprised to already see their top player priced below $800.

I love the * after DTS-HD and DTS-HD MA in the chart. Who wants to bet that it means "bitstream output?"
Edit: ok, I'm an idiot now that I read the rest of the article, but now I'm just more curious as to what they stand for...

ok, i'm an idiot sorry. I usually look for asterisks at the end of a chart for explanation, not the beginning. Anyways, is that kind of odd that they would tell us now, about a product that isn't coming out for months, that they will be upgrading it at an unknown future date to include this feature? Why don't they just do it now? Regardless, I'm much more excited at this than the panny, I would much rather spend $700 on a Pioneer Elite machine than a panny any day.

Good point, if they're both $700 people will go with the Pioneer Elite. As long as they both offer the same features.
