<sigh....> I had to do it. Call it lack of VIDEO FORMAT support, or lack of flexibility... maybe even lack hardware upgradeability. One thing for sure the PS3 is a lot of MANY THINGS... but many things IT STILL SORELY LACKS, compared to my HTPC.
So I sold my 80GB PS3 & simply kept my HTPC. I also went & upgraded the following hardware for full 1080p blu-ray GUSTO:
Blu-ray player for $130

ATI videocard that does the GRUNGEWORK of the HI-DEF contents (yes... 1080p) THIRTY BUX!
http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?loc=2009&sku=205073855
Not to mention being able to keep that same HTPC to play TEAM FORTRESS 2 in my 46-inch Samsung 1080p, TIVO, DO COMPUTER WORK... and best of all INFINITE VIDEO COMPATIBILITY FORMATS available for the pc.
As for the PS3 (or XBOX 360)... the men in Monkeysuits limit us viewers from having video format flexibility.
Sorry Sony (even you Microsoft)... I'm back to basics with HTPC. Whatever your PS3 (or XBOX 360) can do (in HI-DEF contents) my HTPC can DO BETTER... and then some (hardware & software flexibility).
Another reason: RECESSION & GASOLINE PUMPS HIT ME... and I need the money.

You're right... the title is MISLEADING.. I tried changing the subject title, but I guess it only changes it on the thread... not on the directory listing on the right side of this message site. MY BAD.
