Finally found a look at the Back Cover Art of the Sweeney Todd UK Release Blu-Ray.

It obviously has the Blu-Ray logo, it still has the Dreamworks Logo, Warner is the UK distributor.

It shows the Dolby True HD symbol.

I don't see any indication of a 'B' Region code, actually I don't see anything particular to a Region code ABC either.

Knowing Warner's reputation of being Anti-Region Coding, and now actually seeing the back cover photo, is it safe to now assume it is importable to the US/Canada, and will play on a PS3 or Standalone BD player???

Does anyone see anything in the Cover Artwork to indicate otherwise??

Videocipher... I posted a note a few weeks back, confirming that this title is 'Region ALL" (free), as was told to a customer from Amazon UK's staff. The customer then posted this confirmation on Amazon's USA site, and the HighDefDigest forums. To my knowledge, almost every single Warner UK Blu-ray release is 'Region ALL' and will play on all BD players worldwide.

OK Jimi, I remember you mentioning that a while back.

I just wanted to confirm via the back cover Artwork, just in case there were any doubts.

True to Warner's policy, there is no mention of any Region codes on that disc.

Amazon sent the same info that this disc is "All Regions" back to me when I asked, but they have been known to get things wrong as well, a case in point that their info page for the Blu Ray says "All Regions", but still lists the disc format as being PAL.

With Dreamworks remaining silent on the Domestic Blu release, and that I really wanted the UK 'unrated' version anyway, this is one that I'll Import.

Speaking of Dreamworks, they are remaining silent about everything, I wonder if they signed a different deal than the rest of Paramount??

I know everyone is waiting for their Blu Ray copy of Transformers, but the studio says nothing..

Hey VC... well, I guess to be absolutely sure, you might want to wait just a little longer, until there is also confirmation from the Blurayregioncodes.com website - REGION B Releases - as well as checking Ohio's xploitedcinema.com inventory, as Tony (the manager) will definitely be adding this title if it's region-free (like all of the other BDs the company carries). Link to their "New Products" <(all new products are added at the top of this page, and then the others are moved downward in the list).

The popularity of this title (as an import) should be quite high, since Paramount's USA Blu-ray schedule is just now re-engaged (no announcement for Sweeney Todd yet) - and since Johnny Depp is arguably the most popular actor in the world right now... plus this musical is a well-known classic, and so Blu-ray Hi-Def fans will want to buy it.

Another reminder...

There's also a Japanese Blu-ray edition of the film, which is playable on North American players, since we are both part of the same Region A area. However, it costs more - see details I found on the link above.

Decent import price...(arrives May 19)

I noticed on the HighDefDigest (forums) link (further above) - the UK Blu-ray of Sweeney Todd - website ...a member's post ~ "Amazon UK - $36.22 shipped Airmail, and it's released 3 weeks earlier then Amazon Japan (May 19)."

UK version of Sweeney Todd is on order from Amazon.co.uk !!

Even if I need to scrape the HD DVD logo off, both the cover art and the movie screams RED CASE.

This will be my first Blu Ray disc that will reside in a red case after it arrives.

It works out to about 18 GBP, or $36 US with the shipping, which is different than the price displayed on the ordering page.

Maybe because they are exporting it to the US, there is some hidden VAT that they can remove from the price.

The Disc itself was 15 GBP, and shipping via Royal Mail was another 3 pound on top of that...

FYI... in stock now!

>
Ohio-based Xploited Cinema has the 'Region-ALL' (not locked) new Blu-ray Hi-Def release of SWEENEY TODD now available for sale (<click link), for $39.95 + $2.98 media mail shipping (or $3.79 for 1st Class) - includes lots of bonus content. The site has great fast service, usually ships within 24-48 hours.

Note: this is a specially-constructed 'steel book' edition (becoming common on UK releases)...

LH,
I had pre-ordered mine from Amazon.co.uk already.

I upgraded the shipping, and UPS tracking indicates that I will have it on my doorstep first thing in the morning.

The Steel Book edition is a recent surprise, I wonder now if Dreamworks will release the US domestic BD as the 'R' rated one or the Unrated 'Director's'Cut'.

It will be interesting to see how Tim Burton actually filmed the movie, compared to what was edited for the US market to maintain the 'R' rating.

As a rule, I absolutely hate musicals, but the dark and sinister 'goth-like' overtones, and the horrific and bloody violent nature of this movie actually ranks it as one of my favorite films.

I already have the SD-DVD that I watched up-converted to 1080p, and I am just waiting to see what it looks like in true 1080p as a comparison.

I'll have to write a serious review after I watch it a few times on blu ray.

I am still waiting for DVDTOWN to process my request to add the UK BD edition to my online movie collection.
