Yep, totally agreed, mntwister! Too many people are just looking at sales/perspectives today, when of course it takes time to educate people and for people to buy the next big thing. I remember when DVDs first came out and the majority of people complained about the "black bars" on the screen and still wanted full screen versions, and now most people want widescreen versions of their films.

Uh, Not exactly Deadmeat...

VHS = 230 to 250 lines of resolution (depended on the player, and if it was a model labled VHS HQ, rather than simply VHS).

LaserDisc = 400 to 425 lines of resolution (depended on the player's quality)

Conclusion - LaserDisc is higher obviously, but not "twice" the resolution.

You then say... "1080p Blu-Ray enjoys 120 more lines of resolution than 960p Super Upconverted DVD."

Well, that's NOT ALL that Blu-ray "enjoys"!

Blu-ray = HIGH-DEFINITION (with many improvements in audio/video quality, and not just higher "resolution" - and the signal on the disc is a native 1080p or 1080i source!)

Super-Up DVD = STANDARD DEFINITION (artificially upconverted improved from a native 480i source)

Keep things in perspective please.

Intel's Demonstration of Super Upconversion on its Core 2 Duo CPU

The barrier to super upconversion has been the computational power. CIA and NASA did it only on still images to read terrorist's license plate from 200 mile above in space, and real time video version is still under development, and Toshiba is the leader in this field.

With CELL processor, the computational power to super upconvert video in real time is now within consumer electronics domain.

Damn I want a camera that can read a license plate, at an angle while looking straight down on the car
