The New York Times reports that a study released from ABI Research revealed consumers don't really notice the better picture quality Blu-ray DVDs purport to have.

That's pretty odd that people don't notice. I wonder if it's really because they don't have a good side by side comparison? I don't know about anyone else, but I immediately know when I watch a movie if it's HD or not even if I've never seen the SD version.
Maybe I'm above average....hehehe

Anyone got a link to the original New York times article? Andpop seems to be little more than a blog. I've got more than a few questions about the information, paramount among them is the kind of display people were looking at. (I've searched NYT online with "ABI Research" and "blu ray" are keywords, but nothing.)
Here's the original press release from NPD Group...dated April 30, 2008.
Jason, suspicious

Guys, it's another troll thread - the kind that got Deatmeat banned from every other high-def/AV forum on the Internet.
Yes, it's a silly anti-Bluray blog site... but even this site doesn't state that "Consumers can't tell the difference between DVD and Blu-ray" as the title of this thread states

I just found two other websites that this troll does this on.
http://forums.highdefdigest.com/archive/index.php/t-38889.html
and
http://www.forgotten-gamer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=108356
Also from what I understand he got banned from two other sites. He does'nt talk about movies or anything else usefull. All he does is SPAM. As the rules clearly state.
So Hendrix DO NOT FEED THIS TROLL.

Dammit Tony... why do I fall for these types sometimes?
In the past, I saw thru those 'Blu-ray' chodes awhile back (ScottBaio, billyboy, bubblebathgirl, etc), but was thinking Deadmeat was serious about his 'message'... but now you've 'outed' him (or her)-?
Thanks for the heads up.

But Hendrix, a standard DVD chode is almost a contradiction in terms.
I think he's just psychotically affected by his chosen format losing. Earilier posts by him on AVSForum and HighDefdigest will confirm he was one of the biggest chodes for the red format. It's rather sad in a way that someone would go as far to invent things like DVD 2.0 and attempt to substanciate it with the thinnest of unrelated evidence because of a fixation and hate for a friggin format. Like, as if.
Blu-ray, HD DVD... it doesn't matter because in the end it's only a storage medium and a container. What's encoded on it is what counts. And lets press these studios to do better, especially with some of their catelog releases. What was that in the first couple scenes of Predator - an eye-lash on the freaking transfer? No excuse.

Why don't you ask if DVD2 is fake to DVD Forum WG-12 that's developing it?

The container is flawed and that's why I oppose it.

I don't get it? Where on that page does it say anything about DVD 2.0? That link doesn't explain anything!
Oh, I forgot, you're a troll that just suckered me! Well, you just made the Richard Head list!
"No DVDs for you . . . ONE YEAR!"

blu-ray would be that large capacity movie disc right? the one that holds roughly 6 times the information as standard dvd? yeah. very flawed indeed.
microsoft pays you well don't they deadmeat.
are we really comparing early generation blu-ray titles to 11 year old dvd tech.? cause i seem to remember alot of those early dvd discs looking pretty bad.
i will agree though that alot of old movies, unless remastered, will look terrible on the blu.
