Wow Jimi, I don't watch too much TV programming myself, but I have to admit "Lost" is a pretty decent show. Since most of it is shot in Hawaii, it looks awesome in Hi-Def! You should definately check it out sometime.

Lost only happens to be the Best Show on television today! The only thing I can recommend is that you start from the very start! 24 used to be my favorite, until they could only hash the plot over so many times. I'm dying to see what happens this week! we get to find out why the Final 6 came to be!!!

Well Tim... it came down to a single review.

Remember that LOST Blu-ray 1-day sale that Amazon had (late January I think) for Season 3, at a low price of $29.95 (if I remember right). I had read reviews of the Blu-ray hi-def quality saying it was one of the BEST examples of great HD image quality. So, I'm pumped to buy it and watch for the first time.

But... then I noticed the following Amazon customer review (for that particular season), and well, it caused me to back out of buying it...

The season is pathetic. It moves at a snails pace up until the last two disks where apparently the writers and directors realized they had squandered away nearly the whole season and something had to be done quickly. One of the few good episodes features a dejected Hurly rising to the challenge and saving the day.

Far too much time is spent on "Jack" and "Freckles," who are the least interesting characters on the show. One entire episode is devoted to people not previously main characters and who are dead in the end. A virtually wasted show. For Lost fans like my family, you have to have this set - but be warned. You'll be disappointed.

~ Season 4 coming Dec 9...

But that's just one person's review Jimi. The show is doing very well, and it is definitely one of the best on TV right now. I would say "Supernatural" is the best, though.

I agree hoodaguy, but I just figured that since I've never seen the show, to just save my money, and perhaps rent it one day, and start on another season (or the beginning) that had a better review. I'm well aware of how popular the show has become among most viewers (and media critics).

Ironically, the only brief moments I've seen of the show, have been those broadcast on the E! channel's THE SOUP program, where host Joel McHale gives a comedic take/opinion about a particular moment from various weekly TV shows, news events, interviews, etc. YouTube has many of these Soup show clips too (funny).

Wow that is awesome guys. I have seen every episode and it is the best looking HD show, by far the best.
Daimen and Carlton are geniuses. The thing I think is cool is that everything on the show is for a reason and means something! Even the way something sits or a painting. Every detail is on purpose! And a three hour season finale!!!

Hendrix
Watch the show from season one and you will watch 5 episodes a night! IT IS ADDICTING!
Trust me this is the most original show of it's kind. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU!

Ironbull,
This Hendrix guy calls himself a "movie buff" but he has never watched (in my opinion, one of the best shows ever, and yes that includes movies known as "classics") Lost.

This show is everything you have been looking for, (and I agree.) The best way to watch it is on DVD. It will grab you and not let go. Sure season 3 started out slow(first 5-6 eps, eh') but once your hooked...it won't matter. If anybody cares anything about good stories(really good) you must OWN Lost.

I love the love for LOST here. Card carrying member of the fanclub since Episode 1. I don't think I've missed a single episode in its original airing. Every Thursday is the Best Night of TV...start with a new Smallville and end with a new LOST. The only way it could be better is if ABC moved Brothers and Sisters to the 9 pm slot.

And no bashing on Season 3! We got the beautifully amazing Elizabeth Mitchell a lot of screen time, not to mention Michael Emerson!

My Wife gets tired of listening to me taking about Lost. I just went through some key scenes from the last three eps (on my PVR) the last 5 min of "The shape of things to come" very interesting. I don't want to mention spoilers (it is hard not to).

Jason, you like Smallville, NICE!!!

Anyways (yes, I'm a BIG fan of Smallville, and I don't mean BIG as in 400+ lbs... ), my brother has purchased all 3 seasons on SD DVD and I've watched only the first one so far. I got to say, it's a very interesting show, is very well written, but IMO, it suffers from pacing...oh, and I don't like having too many loose ends...but overall, is one of the best shows on air. I've been wanting to start watching the second season but I haven't been able to...however, my brother catches the show on the online reruns.

Friday Night Lights IS the best show out there, no doubts. Excellent writing, Excellent acting, Excellent show...

Absolutely, I do Smallville. I went through the previous six seasons in about five months in 2007 in order to be ready for the S7 premiere. It does have its share of problems, most notably the perverse need to wrap everything up before the last act starts.

And I don't like the majority of season 7. But it has evolved substantially from the first season, with S4 being nearly unwatchable (even with Jensen Ackles and Jane Seymour in the season). I think either S3 or S5 are the best. I have a hard time figuring out which.

I actually wasn't a big fan of Smallville, I began watching Birds of Prey instead (which, by the way is being released in a lame letterboxed widescreen ration ), but as soon as I got into Smallville, I was hooked...I think S3 has been the best so far, with the episode with Lex, Clark and the mental institution being the best of the series (IMO)...I haven't finished S6 on DVD, but I'm beginning to love Lex's obscure outings more and more ...I'm now on the revelation of Lana's pregnancy after the wedding...

LOL - so a TV 'soap'-type show (prime time dramatic show) is now considered a form of a MOVIE??

I'm not 'against' watching the show, but just never got around to starting a season, which I assume (because of the week-to-week continuing storyline) a viewer needs to not miss a show so as to stay up to date on the program's scenario and related characters...?

Perhaps I could one day watch LOST from the beginning with either DVD or Blu-ray rentals. But that takes much time, and I constantly rent and purchase DVD/Blu-ray movie/concert discs every month, and the only show I'm currently viewing (on DVD) is the HBO program ROME, having purchased both Season 1 & 2 last December, when Best Buy had a great sale (just $33 each!) on the SpEd Box Sets.

So, I'd have to find the time to start LOST from the beginning, and I don't know if my interest would keep up with the scenario of always being "lost" on an island... (although I know it's got a large fan base, for sure). My TV watching is mainly related to sports, news/documentary programs, and National Geographic, Discovery, TruTV, History Channel, etc.

I've watched some of 24 over the years, and these kind of continuing dramas tend to grow tiresome to me, so no offense to the fans of LOST, but I don't know when or if I'll get around to one day actually renting the programs. Perhaps one of the Blu-ray sets will give me the motivation!

Yeah. Just go ahead and BUY all three seasons you have pictured there.(you will thank me later) and then try saying the word "soap".

Ironbull,
I'm with you man. I want to talk about this show so bad, but I also dont want to ruin it for anybody. Maybe we need to start a thread for "grown ups"

Well... I just watched some clips on imdb.com etc, and still am not impressed - sorry (my loss I know). Some great scenery sure, but also a lot of small group conversations (and constant discussions), plus how much story variation can be done over one season, then another season, etc. Note: I'm aware of "The Others" storyline too, big deal. All of these characters are still "lost" on an island, and well at this time I'm not interested in viewing.

And I kept thinking... do they ever wash their clothes? body odor? ...etc. -looks to much like a 'soap', and I just don't have the time to watch over 3000 minutes(!) for these 3 seasons. I'll wait for the Season 4 reviews, once the Blu-ray is released this winter, and perhaps rent just -that- season.

Watch the entire pilot episode then judge! Clips of conversations? doesn't hook you. The story is never dull nor does revolve around just talking. The little hidden secrets in every scene.... Things that show up on the island....... rock solid show!

Spoiler Warning!
hear is a scene from the "boring" season 3

Give it a chance Hendrix, like I did, and I wasn't that impress, is not my thing, but give it a chance.

The character development is really good, though the whole 'lost' thing gets tiring...

Hendrix,

Lemme tell ya: some of the things you're concerned about (BO, clothes) are addressed. Not as major story points, but in the background or innocuous actions during a conversation. It's a soap in the same way Babylon 5 is a soap, or Deep Space Nine or Sports Night. Yes, there is a continuing story from week to week with romantic entanglements, but the mystery of the island and what the hell is going on overshadows all of that.

Interesting characters, the aforementioned gorgeous Elizabeth Mitchell, the wonderfully creepy Michael Emerson, the intensity of Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje...not to mention enough guest stars to fill three other shows (Billy Dee Williams, Mira Furlan, Sonya Walger, Clancy Brown, Katey Segal, Cheech Marin)

What I'd give to be able to relive the show completely unspoiled like you would be able to...

Fantastic television. And with the show not coming back until early 2009, you have PLENTY of time to catch up before the new season starts!

Jason, "bad" Lost is better than 99% of the crap on TV

PS-I'd be down for an ongoing LOST discussion, spoilers and all.

Jason... you make it sound really enticing... and I guess I could buy it now, make a little time to start watching, see if I get 'hooked' as others have said... and if really disappointed I could easily re-sell the discs on Amazon and get most of money back (as I've sold DVD/CDs etc on their site many times before). Hmmm...

By the way, that YouTube clip to the "black smoke monster"... I kept thinking about the 'demons' at the end of Ghost, and also Spielberg's War of the Worlds... (hehe). And the quick editing, another JJ Abrams trademark (M:I 3)

I'm still thinking about buying... and would sell the Season 3 so I could watch (rent) it instead on the Blu-ray edition later (or buy if they have a 1-day sale again). I'm just fretting over the time factor, since I rent movies often and also watch sports etc on TV. Pondering...

Once you start the ball rolling you won't care about movies for a while........ you will want to know more....
example: did you notice in the clip that they were handcuffed together yet one had a key?..... why does smoke make machine, growling and clicking noises? Every detail even minor ones are on purpose.

OK... with Tim, Jason, Ironbull, bladerunner, etc highly recommending a purchase of this 3-season set (on sale) to a 'newbie' like myself, I took the time to read the DVDTOWN Reviews of Season 1 and also Season 2 (couldn't locate a Season 3 review, no big deal). UPDATE: found the review to Season 3, as I myself had it linked in the 2nd post of this thread! (oops!)

So a few minutes ago, I made the purchase thru the DVDTOWN special $79.95 sale link (top of Page 3 of this thread). And now I'm ready, and should receive within a few weeks (free 'super-saver' shipping deal) to get into LOST... hehe.

I'll report back later with comments (brief) from my observations. All I know about this show is thru a few brief clips and reviews, and that apparently there's a big mystery to be revealed eventually when the final season ends..(?) as to why everything happened (etc). Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and I look forward to start watching soon.

OMG! a miracle has happened here at DVDTOWN!!! Love Hendrix took the advice of many and bought the best TV series in the last 5 years!!! You will like it! The cool part of it is. You have to make a full day or two of Season one! Take a day off then cram in Season 2!!! It's adictive!!! Then by time Season 3 rolls around, you'll feel at home, then you'll be tempted to download Season 4 off of ARES or Shareaza or something like that!

Thanks Reaggie P... I'm hoping the 3-season order gets here (Houston TX area) by the Memorial Day weekend, so I can spend half a day or more watching much of season 1, but still it will take me several months to watch all 3 seasons. And as I've said here many times before, I'm NOT a 'downloader' (hehe), except for PS3 updates, but a DISC MAN!

So, when Season 4 of LOST arrives on Blu-ray in December, I'll be ready -then- to watch it in 1080p/24 HD (which is not possible on a download system anyway).

Jimi,
I dont watch tv. I watch sports, news, and lost. That is it. My dad told me to check this show out in the midde of season 1, and I was stunned. If you can find me better storytellers than the creators of this show, you let ME know. Lost has nothing to do with what you think it does. (A bunch of people running around on an island) no, my friend...this thing goes as deep as you can possibly go.

I am SO SO SO SO SO freaking thrilled for you, Hendrix. Seriously. You have to pay attention to all the details because 99.9% of them mean something in the grand scheme of the show. Even if the payoff isn't in that particular episodes (or the next...or that season), it WILL come.

I look forward to hearing what you think once the discs arrive on your doorstep.

Thanks for the feedback Jason (and the others). Reviews of the image/sound quality are impressive, so it should be fun paying attention to the "details" (or clues) to the storyline.

Suggestion to DVDTOWN...

Yesterday, when I searched LOST on the movie database, at least 10 pages returned results with film programs having the word "lost" in the title(!), and the various LOST TV Seasons are spread out on several pages (to locate). How about grouping them together? And, at the bottom of each season's review pages, when DVDTOWN has "suggested" titles for consideration, why not feature links to the other LOST season DVD sets? - this would be practical way of finding those other sets.

UPDATE...

I just checked the Amazon discount sale price (see top of PAGE 3 for the link), and the price is back up another $20, to $99.95. I don't know if this is the regular 'sale' price for the 3-season package, or if will go even higher soon. Note: the MSRP for each season is $59.95, before an Amazon discount.

Who wants to start the Lost discussion thread. JJ79 you mentioned starting one. I know this is one but starting a new one with a spoiler warning in the thread title would probably be a good idea.
