RGM, Essential will exec produce
By Gregg Goldstein
May 13, 2008
CANNES -- Seventeen years after "Point Break" washed up in movie theaters, surf's up for the sequel, "Point Break: Indo," with Jan de Bont aboard to direct.
RGM Entertainment and Essential Entertainment will exec produce this Asia-based follow-up to director Kathryn Bigelow's original, which starred de Bont's "Speed" lead Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent casing a gang of surfer bank robbers. The new film will take place 20 years after the disappearance of one of the criminal surfers (Patrick Swayze).
Both the original and sequel are written by W. Peter Iliff. Plot details and possible character reprises have not been disclosed, but the film will shoot in Singapore and Southeast Asia.

"Point Break" was just mediocre, I don't get why they'd bother with a sequal?
I mean, it's the ultimate "stand by" movie . . . meaning it's ok when nothing else is on the tele.

I agree Tim, it was ok but nothing I'd be dying to have a sequel of. Man Hollywood is really running out of ideas. Even when they decide to make a sequel or remake a movie most of the time it's crap so why bother? Are the writers that pittiful? I can't believe that the writers are not more imaginitive than this crap we've had lately, with the exception of a very select few movies of course. Last year was a disaster.
EDIT: Maybe it's the Directors? Or the guys producing these movies? Maybe all three?

Kuco, all I'm saying is movies could be better. Yes there are some good movies but there are so many movies that were obviously made because they think they can get a buck or two from it.
Quality over quantity.
Then again there are bigger things to worry about in this world. While movies can be a great form of entertainment they can also be so much more sometimes. They can change you and make you realize things, feel things, etc.
It's relative I guess. Ah well...Indiana Jones 4 is one week away!

All hollywierd does nowadays is comic/video game adaptions or remakes. As much as I love comics the movies don't always turn out right, Electra,Daredevil and The Fantastic Four sucked. I'm really tired of the remakes of Japanese horror movies. Why don't they just show the original film here in theaters?

Because most North American movie goers are lazy and cannot be bothered reading subtitles

Even dubbing the movie in English is better than those terrible remakes.

I see what you're saying, but making a buck is what business is all about, and Hollywood is a business like any other. Very few filmmakers make a film for the love of it, knowing it's going to lose money. Very few studios and very few backers are going to support such a film.
Also, if you go back through movie history to any given year, you'll see that there were just as many losers as winners, critically speaking. We just tend to look back on past years and remember only the good, making those years seem a lot better than they were.

True. We always tend to remember the good stuff when looking back. It's human nature I guess. Some years are going to be better than others also. It's just the way it is.
Hey Indiana Jones comes out this friday.
