I think it's been over 20 years since I watched this one, and what a surprise. It's juvinille and silly, but the kids adored it. It's great to see a slightly older film appeal to a new generation all over again.

I thought it would look dated as hell, but the special effects were real (not CGI) and really still look incredible. They did a good job PQ wise, and that was a surprise too. No EE artifacts that really stood out, and a rather smooth presentation for its age. A good amount of detail and dynamic range made it look better than some day&date releases I've seen. Image Entertainment certainly exceeded by expectations with this one.

Unfortunately, the DTS-MA sound track is hindered by the original I guess... and pretty crappy. But at least the dialogue is clear and it reproduces the source material I suppose.

Man, that Indian guy is a hoot... it's too bad they dumped him near the end of the movie and didn't carry his character through somehow to the end as well.

IMO, this is a definite buy... even if you don't have kids.

Good thing he's the main character beside of Johnny5 in Short Circuit 2. You can catch that one when it hits BD as well!

Got this for 10 bux on Amazon, hopefully it will be delivered today. This movie is a prime example of the advantages of non-cgi. You know if it was made today Johnny 5 would be fake.

Well, this is where I find Pixar's upcoming "Wall-E" not that original. Wall-E, IMO, looks like a combination of the robots from "Silent Running" and the robot of "Short Circuit".

Yeah, Wall-E is gonna go through the roof (money wise) due to it's usual Pixar brand of cuteness. I have nothing against pixar mind you, but I just wish they would put their creative power towards something with Ninjas and giant robots and explosions and spaceships and interdimensional monsters and absolutlely nothing cute for once!
