Seems the Russian Communist Party is upset with the new "Indiana Jones" movie and are calling for a nationwide Russian boycott:

Could Spielberg and Lucas be starting a new Cold War? And here I was thinking the new movie was just leaving a few old fans cold?

(Actually, I saw the movie yesterday and liked it quite a lot. Not as much as I liked the original three, but more than I had feared I might. And, yes, the Communists are the bad guys this time out, just as I suspected they would be when I heard rumors about this film being made several years ago. It's set in 1957, after all, and the Nazis are long gone.)

Wow. It's an Indiana Jones movie! People need to relax.

I would be honoured if I was made a villain in an Indy movie.

Well, since the communist party is the opposition party to the controlling nationalist party in Russia right now they really have much to say about anything. The way Putin runs things, if you oppose him, you go to jail. And you stay there. And they forget about you. As for a nationwide boycott, I think they seem to forget people in most parts of Russia can't just get up and go to the movies on a whim. So I think means very little in the face of money making/losing for this movie. An interesting tidbit of info though.

And here I thought the only ones calling for a boycott were the USA fundamental Christians again. Luckily the Communist Party doesn't rule Russia, nor does the Fundamental Christians rule America... err, perhaps after the next election I mean.

A thread about Indy 4 and you still slip in a knock against the US. Well played sir!

Aww... I didn't mean to hurt your feelings. After all, censorship in the US isn't quite as bad as many Middle Eastern countries... unless you live in Texas or something.

In all seriousness, it was a knock against the Fundamental Christian movement - the major origins and population of which just happens to be in USA's southern "Bible-Belt". I'm not making this crap up. I hate to be the bearer of this bad news.

Now, why the heck is my wife taking so long getting ready to go out!? This is a more important question to me right now...

Let's hope you don't run into any scary Christians.

After watching "Jesus Camp", there certainly are some "scary" ones out there. What's sad is how the book burning Christians tend to give a bad name for ALL Christians that are not as fire & brimstone as they are.

Christians = Fire & Brimstone
Muslims = Suicide bombers
Jews = Greedy money mongers
Mormons = Puligamists
Catholics = Child molesters

People only seem to see or remember the worst when it comes to stereotypes. I am a proud agnostic myself. I take no issue with god personally, but I sure hate his fan clubs!

On the other hand I work with two or three devout muslims. And they are the nicest and most generous people I have ever worked with I think. My best friend married into a jewish family so is now jewish by proxy. They are all very giving people as well. One of my old friends from high school was mormon. He was kinda wierd, but his family was very kind and let us pretty much have week long sleep overs. I don't have much experience with run of the mill christians or catholics though.

It is amazing how many "progressive" people jump at the chance to group people together.
