See, this is the mentality I don't understand in every aspect of life, not just discs. The "someone else" mentality. From what I understand, just because no one else bought a single BR copy of "Subk-bo"...er, "Rambo," you didn't either. Why? Not because there is a flaw with the discs or you wouldn't enjoy the movies (I presume). But because NO ONE ELSE BOUGHT A BLOODY COPY?

Are you f'ing kidding me? If one or two people hadn't started to make noise about equal rights for blacks and women, we'd still have slaves and women would be true second class citizens. If a group of colonists hadn't wanted to give the big finger to England, we'd ALL be speaking proper English. Someone's got to be first in everything.

Even if BR goes belly up, no one is going to take the fraking discs away from you. Same goes for HD DVD and all the morons who moaned about that earlier this year. The discs and players still work like they did in December.

Dear god, this isn't anything but a veiled "BR sucks" anecdote. Complete with dubious logic, at best.

The DVD format will be around for years to come.

John I see it from a similar point ov view as Bladerunner1. Right now the big hype is all about Blu-Ray. High priced movies with marginal improvement over DVD. Not all Blu-Ray movies are like this but most. For some of us, dumping $29.99 or even $39.99 for a movie is a bit rediculous. For most viewers, one view is enough. Not to say there isn't alot of movies that can't be view tens of hundreds of times. I can grab the same DVD version for half the price. I know there is Blu-Ray sales for $15.99 but most are those sub par movies warner sent out ont he fast track... I have an XA2 that excells above any other DVD player out there. I can see clutch titles Like Batman Dark Knight or Star Wars being purchased in Blu-Ray. But seriously, Rambo? The upconversion of a alright movie is enough for my collection. Crap I'm not scared to admit DVD-DL's from the rental store are good enough for me.

I donno about you guys, but I'm going to our Walmart tomorrow and hoping they have the VHS in stock. Only because John scared me with his talk of the DVD format not living forever.

I seriously hope this thread is just a joke.

mvckalel, actually Walmart surprised me the other day. I was in there, and they had a display in the front near the cashiers (miles away from the Blu-ray section) filled with Blu-rays on sale for $18.00 each. This may be no big deal to you, but Walmart here is the MOST EXPENSIVE place I know of to buy Blu-rays in this city. Those same disks were selling for $32.99 just days before there. It's the first sale I've seen at Walmart on HD media period - HD DVD or Blu-ray.

Of course we are talking about a real, high quality movie here! lol I wouldn't bother with Rambo in any format, nor would I bother with a rental!

Where is the source saying Wal-Mart is #1 in Blu sales? That seems highly unlikely. I'm sure there are numerous online stores that sell exponentially more Blu discs. I don't know anyone who owns a Blu-Ray player who buys discs at Wal-Mart. Best Buy, sure. Future Shop, Amazon, HMV, Deep Discount, but Wal-Mart?

I'm also curious how much one would pay for the 2 disc edition of Rambo on the day it is released. Probably the same as the Blu-Ray, so I don't think that cost can be cited as a determining factor. Maybe if you waited a while, you could get it for half the price of a Blu-Ray, but not on the day it comes out. I would bet the difference isn't more than a buck or two, or at least you could get the Blu version somewhere for not more than a buck or two more. I was looking online at National Treasure 2, and the 2 disc edition is the same price as the Blu edition. I would bet it's the same for Rambo.

Yeah. Walmart is the MOST IMPORTANT RETAILER IN THE FREAKIN WORLD!!! Didnt you know this? This place is a HUGE reason why dvd is where it is at today. Joe Blow just LOOOOOVES Walmart. And I believe, just as the MASS adoption of DVD depended on this retail GIANT...so will Blu Ray. Because..."They sell for less". (at the cost of American jobs ofcoarse)

John,
I own 80 or so HD discs. Just about split down the middle between both formats. I have also rented many more. I have seen ALOT of HD content. Just about every disc worth seeing. I love HD. And if the adoption rate pics up, I will def. get back into buying these discs. But I for one am sick and tired of being the "test market". And I have also stated on here many times that standard dvd "upconverted" will do just fine for the general public until digital downloads arrive.

I'd actually like Blu-ray to die, I'm perfectly happy with my DVD's, and am still more than annoyed by greedy corporations to make a partial update in an attempt to make a fine format obsolete. Make a jump like the one from VHS to DVD, or leave me alone..I've spent too much time building my DVD collection. All this is making me hesitate to finally go nuts with Criterion discs...
