Ok does this mean, that BR is dieing a slow death? Does this mean that I can stop hinting to the wife that I wanna a Blu Ray player? OMG!! Does that mean the end of the world is near? Maybe I should go see Father O'Hara at my local confessional and repent my sins before it is to late.

Skyhawk, I don't want to seem smug, but the XA2 does an unbelievable job of converting SD DVD to near HD. I have my PC running through my Achor Bay scaler and it does a great job of fixing some of the minor bugs from my ATI 2600HD video card. When I say minor, we talking about a few hundred pixels. Approximately 192 pixels count difference. I wish the XA2 had a HD passthrough option for the Reon Scaler... That would be cool.

Skyhawk why don't you pick up a XA2 from E-Bay? You will really enjoy it! I mean that.

I agree with Hendrix ...however, I do think that blu-ray isn't going anywhere (yes, it's going NOWHERE )...maybe in ten years or so it will be replaced with the new ultra definition discs, but it will take a while.

I don't think I'll buy all the 200+ SD DVDs I got in the blu-ray format, only the ones that deserve it (I'm talking to you Star Wars, Godfather, Indy, LOTR) and as long as they got HD A/V and really good special features, or else, there is not point in a double (triple?) dip, but it's difficult given all the new releases with just 1080p picture and regular DD and some episodes as 'bonus features'...come on, is that how they wana sell the format??

Update:
I watched that "standard dvd" copy of "Rambo" in the A2 last night, and while the movie pretty much sucked (Not enough RAMBOmusic/sound effects werent right. didnt have that cool effect like the ol'flicks with the explosions, yaknow...the Rambo EXPLOSION!!! and also, not enough of the RAMBO theme. but Stallone looked good for his age...just wanted more Stallone !!!) but the picture and sound were VERY good! Plus I can play this in any other one of the 10 players I own. And I can take it to GRANDMAS!!!!!

Well I do have over 850 standard DVDs that would benefit. Plus I could stow away my A2 as a backup player. Unfortunately XA2s are getting rare. There is only ONE on eBay, and when the bidding is over, I bet the price will top $400 easy.

I'm also very poor right now (meaning my wife wont let me buy any new toys for the next couple months). I just bought a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM lens for my 40D camera with the 2X teleconverter, and the wife can't understand why this glass has to cost as much as a used car. Weird.

Quote:"When a new release comes out, IF I can get it for cheap, AND the reviews of the sound, picture and extras are good, AND I really love the movie, Blu is an option. I recognize the improvement Blu provides, but when the average disc costs a minimum of $25, SD is still the way I go with most movies. They are much easier to get cheap a few weeks after release."

Hey... that's why you should choose to support BLU-RAY RENTALS!

As a Blu-ray owner/collector, your first choice is to buy (if on sale, around $15 or so), but then the 2nd best option is RENTING... why settle for standard definition (upconverted) when you have the option/capability for Blu-ray HD viewing? Consider Netflix, or Blockbuster (both with online services, low monthly rates, 1-2 day delivery) - and with local in-store option too (Blockbuster TOTAL ACCESS) if desired.
