View profile »Sony CEO Howard Stringer confirms in an interview with WSJ that PS3 was a catastrophic financial disaster enough to bankrupt Sony and Sony was ready to pull the plug on PS3 last summer(Summer of 2007).
Had Microsoft given a little more marketing push(a price drop to $299), then that would have pushed PS3 over the edge and force Stringer to pull the plug on PS3. Satisfied with $70~150 profit that each Xbox 360 sold was bringing in, Microsoft was content with the market situation at that time and allowed PS3 to survive.

So both Sony (backer of Blu Ray) and Microsoft (backer of HD DVD) are greedy? Seriously? Based on some people around here, you would think Microsoft was a knight in shining armor while Sony was trying to murder all our babies.

Microsoft, well, just pick a lawsuit and it explains itself.

The past is the past though and there is no going back. At least I don't think there is unless the studios themselves decide to revive HD DVD which I doubt very much. Hopefully a lesson has been learned for many.
