I just bought the Die Hard quintriligy (is that the right word?) for $57 at Amazon as a one day sale item. It's gonna be a loud weekend. The neighbors are going to love this, not to mention their teenagers (and a few dads) who I will never get rid of once these are rolling!!!!

At less then 12 bucks each, now that's how BD disks should always be priced! Steve

Steve,

I think I've mentioned it before, but "Die Hard 4: Live Free or Die Hard" has some of the best sound I've heard on any disc in any format. I hope you don't have neighbors living too close or a family that needs its rest.

Got me. Anyhow, it looks like I made up a new word, you know... like "Blu." John, I told my wife what you said about the sound. She rolled her eyes and walked away mumbleing something in Italian. Life is Good!!

Steve,

When I said "DH4" has good sound, I was half teasing about the loudness part. Of course, you don't need to play it loud in order to appreciate the directional activity in the surrounds or the subtlety in the mains. (But it helps, and it's immense fun. Play it while she's gone. )

I know that John. But loud is good, at least to a degree. I just tease her a lot hey I've had 38 years of practice! She can take it! Speaking of loud, I read somewhere recently that the new Denon av receivers will have circuitry designed to level off loud passages. I'm sure that the Onkyo receivers have the same features, but I am a big Denon fan, so one of these may be on my radar in the future.

In the meantime, Amazon just informed me that my DH set has been shipped...

I was just about ready to click the 'Place your order' button, when I decided to double back and read some user comments. I didn't expect them to change my mind but at the end I just couldn't get the bad taste of the PG13 rated version out of my mouth and I held off. I'll wait....

I'm with Bruce... the thing holding me back from getting this when I get a PS3, has to be the fact that Die Hard 4.0 isn't the Unrated version.

Guys... as John has indicated many times, the A/V quality of Die Hard 4 is outstanding, and the PG-13 edition is not an issue with me (in this situation). You could always rent the unrated version on SD-DVD if wanting to check it out. Sure, Fox will eventually re-release it unrated on BD, but when - a year or two?

Now, I'm with you on Independence Day (another Fox title) as I have the "5-Star" DVD Collection edition, and the longer cut is definitely superior to the theatrical edition, especially the ending (action) scenes. So, I won't buy it on Blu-ray, and would just rather rent.

And hey, you could just rent the DH 4 on BD too, if wanting to check out it's quality. I wish Fox would have issue both versions of it's films on BD, like they did with the lame AvsP: Requiem film. And more extras! Fox is definitely among the worst (among major studios) in their BD releases, and prices.

Steve,

Reducing the dynamic range is not something I would find an advantage in a receiver. It's like the difference between AM and FM radio, where AM is severely compressed to almost a single volume level and FM goes from very, very soft to very, very loud. It's the latter we want, even it it sometimes jolts us from our seat.
