Not sure if this standalone is profile 2.0 (or upgradeable), but seems reasonable, for those refusing to buy a PS3. Mind the reviews though... a mixed bag.

It seems no one has made the Ultimate BR player yet except for the PS3. Tis a shame with all those stand alones none of them work worth a damn, yet my Oldest HD-DVD player... (18 months old) still kicking with no issues.

? ...well, I'm sure there are some PANASONIC Blu-ray stand-alone owners who would surely disagree with your opinion. And I don't seem to remember Pioneer or Denon BD owners griping about their players not "working worth a damn" either.

I will be one of those owners if Panny ever releases the BD50! Until then, I'll sit back and enjoy the PS3.

I don't understand why there is no love out there for the BD-P1400. I bought this deck over three months ago and have NEVER had a SINGLE problem with it. Apparently when the unit was first released there was some disc incompatibility issues but firmware updates have resolved those.

I do believe that the BD-P1400 is one of the FEW players out there that will internally decode every audio codec except for DTS-MA. This deck also bitstreams ALL audio codecs. For a low price of $270 this is a no-brainer people...go buy one!

My Panasonic BD-30 is a great machine, at least as good as my Toshiba HD-A35. I've had no problems with eiither.

Nice one. Basically I've been holding back on getting a PS3 until they started packing in the DS3 controller... and also until the MGS4 80 gig Bundle came out. So... I'll be going in half and half with my dad on that one.
