SD DDVD sales down almost 15% and Blu sales down nearly 20%! I wonder how VoD sales are doing these days?

Has there been any significant releases in the last couple of weeks? Probably why theres a 20% drop.

This tuesday Jumper is the biggest release. I don't know if that's going to spike sales either.

SpoonieG, I see you're pairing with VoD like deadmeat is with SUC.

It could be the lack of Blockbuster movies this month. Jumper alone will not help this out.

Tony, believe it or not VOD, especially at my place of work accounts for 30% of all TV revenue. It is possible to surmise that VOD's popularity is growing, but not enough to make a major impact on overall hardware media sales. Keep in mind guys that it also the summer now, and overall sales will plummet over the next few weeks. Attendance in theatres is also up too. Three big shows are hitting theatres in the next coming weeks.

ReaggieP, believe or not I was a big fan of VoD until I started getting those very expensive cable bills. For about 10 bucks a month (the price of 2 HD VoD rentals) I get Netflix. I Can rent as much as I want and only pay one monthly fee. The selection is unmatched with plenty of older movies to rent. I also get HD audio and full 1080p withBlu ray rentals. So for me VoD isn't really an option any more for me.

Edit: And no 24 viewing window.

Gosh, last week's sales data obviously indicates the start of a long term trend: that no one is buying DVDs anymore - just renting them through their cable company!

I was actually asking an honest question. I'm not siding with anyone anymore. It just happens to be my opinion that VoD is more and more viable. It's way closer than thn everyone else believes. So i'm not really siding with it, just looking at factual information with current transfer speeds and the new competition between Verizon FiOS and Comcast cable, we'll see speeds go up and prices come down.

Cheaper than spending THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS for a blu ray setup (because you also NEED a HDTV, expensive receiver to take advantage of blu ray-specific audio, and surround sound speakers).

Convenient. No need to spend gasoline waste to travel & rent (or buy) the movie. Download done in a matter of minutes. Not waiting for DAYS for snail-mail to deliver that rental disc.

VOD will catch up MUCH FASTER than blu-ray... BECAUSE THERE'S NO ADDED HARDWARE TO SPEND.

True, no HDTV required. You can watch VOD on your 13" black & white TV, and it does look pretty darn good IMO. And although the speaker is a little tinny sounding on such a TV set, sound isn't really important to the movie experience anyway.
