Hey everyone... did you happen to see today's Sunday advertisement from Circuit City? They've got the last available model of a combo Blu-ray/HD-DVD player on sale for just $499 (saves $300) - the LG BH200 Super-Blu player (the model that Tim Raynor recently purchased a few months ago, and highly recommends). It's $100 lower than Best Buy's price too!

If I didn't already own a PS3 and two Toshiba HD-DVD players, I'd be all over this to purchase! Think about it Eddie... for $500 you've got upconverted DVD, HD-DVD, and Blu-ray playback all in one!

Since Samsung recently dropped out of combo HD players, this model will be the LAST available to buy, before BD only players become standard. FYI - Eddie (posters5 here on the Msd Bd) has previously indicated he doesn't own a BD player, so that's why I'm recommending this excellent, capable player, since now he reviews titles from all 3 disc formats (but watches BD titles on a friend's PS3). And Eddie's got several CC locations there where he resides (in the Austin TX area). Time to spend that government rebate check!

I was going to buy this LG BH200 also and only decided on the PS3 at the last minute because of it's multimedia capabilities. If it wasn't for that I would have gone for this LG combo player 100%.

For what it does, it's absolutely worth it.

Someday we will look back on that LG and have a laugh. I mean, LOOK AT IT! It looks like a freakin tank! But so did all of the other early DVD players....

But, it's whats on the inside that counts anyway, and this thing has got the goods.

According to Amazon, the dimensions of the LG BH200 are 10.6" x 16.9" x 2.9". That makes it smaller than either my Toshiba A35 or Panasonic BD30. Are we talking about the same player here, or were you referring to another LG?

I almost got one but got my PS3 instead. It is pretty big but I decided against it. BB's protection plan will replace your product with something equivelant if it breaks down and can't be fixed. Well, the dual players won't be made anymore, so if it breaks in two years (I get the 4 year plan) it will be hard to replace. That was just my wife's thinking when she got me the PS3 (birthday/father's day present)...

No John, I was actually looking towards the future when all of these players "slim down". They are "for sure" getting smaller, but they are hardly where they will eventually end up. Bring this thread back out in a couple years....

The LG BH 200 on Tiger Direct was cheaper than at Circuit City but now they have sold out or stopped selling the player.

Ah well I'm going to get it eventually. This LG can be upgraded to Profile 2.0!

Personally, I don't think it looks any bigger than my first SONY DVD player back in 97.

. . . wait a tick, I still have that old player in a closet somewhere, let me go look.

Yep, it looks about the same size as my old DVD player from 97. Funny how I didn't hear a lot of complaining about size back then, but as Nigel Powers says, "it's not the size mate, it's how you use it"

Look, compared to my fathers GE VHS player from 1981, the LG BH200 IS a slim line in comparison. Man, some of you guys are so freaking bitchy! I'd hate to hear what you might wine about if you purchased a decent gaming computer! "OMG, it's a BIG tower! It's way to big for my tiny desk!" LMAO!!!

two things:

1) blu-ray is a sony media format, so i will never pay money for any blu-ray products.

2) small/thin disc players are not good purchases. due to the lack of heft, they tend to introduce a lot of jitter and noise when spinning discs at high speeds.

Very true Eddie. As a matter of fact DVD players with a thin chasis have a 32% higher failure rate vs those with a copper thick chasis. I still enjoy using my Toshiba SD-5109 from time to time...
