However, the demonstration results were quite spectacular. The video transcoding process takes about half as long on a SE1000 than on a 3 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad CPU.

My current set up in my PC takes about 45-60 mins to transcode 1 peice of HD(1.5hrs). If this says what I think it'll do, I can cut that time to 20 to 25 minutes! That would be nice! For SD, I would be looking at 15mins vs 30 or 45mins! I don't get why toshiba wouldn't use release it's own brand of video cards for PC's or MAC's? It would squash ATI(AMD) and NVidia. Wouldn't it?

I want to see screen shots or a video comparing regular upscaling vs this super upconvert technology. Then we, the consumer, can decide. Besides when are these super-upconvert players going to be in stores?

... also how much? Anything over $150 (for me) is a dealbreaker.

No DirectX support. This is a computation accelerator card, not a videocard.

November/December 2008.

I have no idea on pricing, but around $199 is a good guess considering the BOM.

You won't be able to use this technology for home PC use. I do agree with ReaggieP about how quickly it does transcode but it's transcoding from 1080p MPEG4 to 480p not the other way around (which I don't think can be done).
