Walked into Wal-Mart yesterday to get some replacement bulbs for my moonray lights and decided to check out the Blu Ray display and check to see in there were any sales. The display is now in the middle aisle and has a HDTV playing Enchanted on Blu Ray. I did notice that the picture did not look as fantastic as it should so I inspected further, and I found the player is in the middle of the display hidden from sight, and was just able to make out that they had hooked up the AV cables to the TV from the player. This made the movie look like a regular DVD!! I asked the guy in the department why they used the cables they used and he said that is what came in the box and that is what they used. I did inform him that HDMI should be used to show the best picture and he just stated "if it came with the cables then we use the cables"
I don't think Wal-Mart trains their staff on this stuff and I am thinking there are going to be alot of returns at my store.

Well it takes a degree from Yale to work at Walmart. It seems odd you met someone that didn't know what they were doing.

This is actually very disturbing news. Like I have mentioned here before, I believe that Walmart is the key to mass acceptance of the format. Maybe we all need to go to our respective stores, and "offer" to get these displays looking right! Talk to the manager and explain to them how to make money on Blu Ray, and then point out to them that "This" is not cutting it. Sometimes if you want something to succeed, you have to get your hands a little dirty. And if they will not let you do it (which most likely they won't) OFFER to help one of their employess to get it right. Hell even buy the damn HDMI cable if you have too.

Good idea blade. I will offer my assistance to them but not buy the HDMI cable. It would be good advertisement for the Blu ray player, HDMI cables, the HDTV the movie is on, the movie itself, and Blu ray in as a whole.

YES! It will be the MOST IMPORTANT advertisement for our beloved HD. Walmart can either make or break blu ray. Believe it.

Ok. so buying the HDMI cable thing yourself may be overdoing it a bit. But just do what you can to make your local "WALMART BLU RAY DISPLAY" look the best that it can. I will be headed to mine later on tonight to see what I can do....

Maybe Sony, or for all of you fanboys , the "blu-ray group", should actually be caring about this stuff, not only in Wal-Mart, but in BB, CC or any other retailer... ...I mean, they are the ones who want their product sold, not retailers retailers will always find another profitable product...
