I believe it's actually a promotion celebrating him, much like Warner is celebrating their own 85th anniversary. Is WB vain, too, or is this just another "reason" to bash on Cruise?

Tom Cruise is self-bashing. He doesn't require any outside assistance.

He was great in Eyes Wide Shut though.

Agreed and I just caught that flick the other night on Universal HD. EWS is such a cool movie but there are a lot of people that didn't care for it. In my opinion, those people just didn't understand it and I think a lot of it has to do with having experience in life that the movie presented.

I also liked Tom in Born on the Fourth of July and Magnolia, but I find most of his work it's like he's trying too hard and thus comes out as a C+ performance. I think the only thing that has kept the guy afloat is he's always playing in the blockbuster bandwagon. He's just an average high production actor that appears to do fine for the kind of films he stars in, but I don't think of him as an outstanding great actor -- just one that's good enough for the films he's in which really isn't saying much negative or positive.
