Cell-based GPU zaps laptop batteries, admits Toshiba
In an age when it seems we want more battery life out of our laptops, it seems the new line of Toshiba laptops are too power hungry. The reason? Their new Cell Processor eats up to much battery life. Toshiba had to include a function for turning off the Cell Processor or have only 40 minutes of battery life. So the laptop disables the processor when not connected to a power outlet.
Quote:
When pushed, a Toshiba staffer admitted that the Quad Core HD chip is turned off when the laptop is disconnected from mains power. He confessed that the Quad Core HD is simply too power-hungry. Had Toshiba enabled the part, battery life would fall to a mere "40 minutes".

It also seems that Toshiba is holding back alot of info about their cell based products that they say will compete with Blu-ray but refusinging to show side by side comparisons with Blu-ray along with their new DVD upscaling tech, and now this.

HOOK, LINE, and SINKER. You neglected to mention that in your thread sporting and bragging on Toshiba laptops Deadmeat w/flies. I don't know about you but I like to watch movies while traveling on the road using my laptop. Oh, and by the way, your friends at Toshiba still need an Nvidia GPU in their laptops.

despite the Quad Core HD, still need a second GPU to handle the graphics. Toshiba admitted that the "all new Qosmio laptops will be equipped with the latest Nvidia GeForce graphics processor units".

mmmmmmmm

i think a stand alone BLU-RAY player will be much more affordable,than these lame laptops.i see SUC in these craptops and planned for toshibas tv's,but i see nothing regarding a DVD player incorporating SUC

BLU-RAY=$300-$600

LAPTOP=$600-$1000+$3000(for a 1080p.tv)

and the laptop,infact anything with this quad core stuff,is gonna chew electric

You don't need a cell based GPU or an nVidia GPU to upscale video.

Yes. But you do need SpursEngine to super upconvert DVD to 960p native resolution.

The royalty burden accounts for $112 of a Blu-Ray player's MSRP.($75 raw royalty + 50% retailer mark-up).

than these lame laptops.

Then buy the $199 Super Upconversion DVD player this Xmas instead.

The Super Upconversion DVD player was already announced by Toshiba's CEO last month. It was reported by Japanese press, but ignored by US press.(Most likely due to language barrier)
