Our own Jason Vargo wrote the review. Our sneaky Web-site program mysteriously deleted his name for a moment.
Yes, the new "Get Smart" is a lot better than some other reviewers, like the one in my own local newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle, would lead you to believe. It may not have quite the zany spirit of the old television series, and Max may no longer be quite the idiot he used to be, but the new version is a lot of fun in its own way. A solid 6/10 from me, too, meaning upper average and far from awful.

Falcon,
Generally speaking, if it's a theatrical review, I did it. There are exceptions, though. Chris tackles a couple and John and I have been known to do the odd double review.

First of all Jason Vargo made no mention in his review about sneaking into a movie. It was Scionguy05 who is a forum member just like you.

this site is a movie and movie media site, and if it supports the industry then it can do without comments of that kind
i work in the cinema, and get naff wages because of FORUM MEMBERS like that
maybe you should think before getting on your high horse, telling people what and what not to do or say
or do you work for a company that believes in giving its products away freely,or do you just agree that the death of the cinema by whatever contributing factors is a good thing?
perhaps even good enough to BRAG & BOAST about on websites supposedly supporting the movie industry, and supposedly staffed by people who feel passionate about movies and their place..THE CINEMA

It was not a derogatory comment. Your username, on the other hand, is a bit more iffy.

We can similarly do without you hijacking the thread, thankyouverymuch.

You work in the cinema and get "naff wages" because you present yourself like the 16 year old you are.

Likewise. You're the one who started this entire conversation, not us.

Overreact much? The death of cinema, as you call it, isn't going to be from people walking into another movie after theirs finishes. It's going to be from halfwit productions, ginormous budgets and a depressed economy.

Not once has someone condoned that behavior in this thread. Not. Once. If you wanted to legitimately discuss the topic, you could have started a new thread dedicated to behavior like this. Seeing as you decided to hijack a thread of opening your own discussion, I can only surmise you have no idea how online message boards work. Or the etiquette thereof.

I don't doubt there would be complaints. Therefore, I'd keep a closer eye on my wallet. Maybe these theaters need better security. (Which is not to excuse walking into another movie.)

And I'm guessing you know who goes in and out of every single theater. Since you're a small operation, you have a much larger stake in what happens. In the multiplexes owned by giant companies, the basic employees probably don't much care.
Quote:

Yep, you got me. I walk into three movies every weekend after paying for one. I grab a couple CD's at Best Buy and stick them in my bag, too.
Grow up, dude. I haven't defended this type of behavior. Period. Nor will I. You're the one making it a crime against humanity. Why not put your energies into something a bit more productive?
Quote:

See, the difference between you and me is I can refute you point by point without calling you a name. It's called maturity. You might want to look it up. I can assure you the people I've known for the last 2 years here on DVDTown and the places I've written for the last 10 years know I'm not scum or 10 years old.
And really, is "scum" the worst thing you can come up with? I've been called much MUCH worse.

Yes, I would agree. But you also shouldn't hijack a thread which was talking about a particular movie. Start a new thread, as I already mentioned.

Actually, ITSTHROBBING, you are trolling. You disrupted a perfectly good thread, changed the subject, and made an attack for no reason except purposely to disrupt. In fact, each of your posts since you were banned and re-registered under a new name have been disruptive troll posts.
I have asked the editor to ban you again. And you will re-register under yet another name, and we will continue to play this game until you quit and go home.

Anyway I'd like to see this but I still haven't seen Indy 4 or Kung Fu Panda, plus Dark Knight is comin and who knows what else. Priorities! I'll see it on video for sure though.
Jason do you think there will be a sequel to this?

I'd put GS above Panda and Indy, to tell you the truth. More of a date movie or something light to bring the family to (with 12 yo+ kids). But then, Dark Knight is going to blow everything else away, obviously.
Quote:

I think this works as a "one and done" better than an ongoing franchise. Hathaway, a serious actress of sorts, can't be thrilled with the idea of playing in a comedy for the next decade. The cast is going to get prohibitively expensive, unless WB locked them in for three movies in their original contract. And, while GS did win the weekend ($39.1 mil, IIRC, domestic), the production budget was $80 mil. It will make back its budget, but will be knocked down to 2 or lower next weekend with Wall*E opening...and then Hancock and then Dark Knight.
The short version?
Jason, watch me be proven wrong tomorrow

I really hate it when the best parts are in the trailer. Drives me NUTS.
Jason, I forgot about Wall-E and Hancock. Good call. Gonna see Wall-E with the 6 yr old for sure, Hancock I hope so.
Man I haven't been to the theatre this much in YEARS.
Anything to get excited about after Dark Knight? The only movie I can think of is the Clone Wars cartoon movie but that's only cause I'm a Star Wars nut. I don't expect other people to be getting too excited about that one.

Falcon,
In terms of after TDK...er, maybe The Mummy? The Women in September? There may be a breakout something or other, but nothing huge which smacks me in the face. Then again, the best movie of 2006 that NOBODY F'ING SAW didn't hit until the end of October...Catch a Fire.

Yes. The Mummy, H.P. 6 and the new Star Trek. It's gonna be a good year
I wonder if this years totals will be higher than last years money wise. We shall see. There seems to be more enticing movies out there this year in my opinion.

Who in the heck ever said that DVDTown "supports the movie industry"? We're an independent web site that provides news coverage and film reviews. We therefore become part of the sprawling PR machine that is cinema, but we're hardly part of the industry.
And of course your entire complaint is nonsensical since it wasn't posted by a DVD employee in the first place, just a user. We don't censor lightly - only when personal attacks or rampant trolling are involved.

Well i didnt mean to start a debate about sneaking into a movie. sorry guys i guess some people are up tight, I dont support stealing are sneaking into movies or pirateing dvds. i really didnt think it was that big of a deal considering there were like 15 people in a huge theather watching the movie, it was 11pm. Not that makes its okay but its not like its was a packed house and people tryn to find a seat.

Hymie was my favorite last major character introduced in the series. "Kill the light... shake a leg!" Yuk, Yuk.
So did Maxwel Smart still have a shoe phone? I can imagine him on a street corner in Manhattan with everyone around him on their cell phones, when his shoe starts ringing... some of those old gags would work wonderfully today for completely different reasons.

well this movie i saw last night and it was packed.i got hooked up with free tickets and was going to watch the love guru aswell but got tired and went home.
the other half didnt like it.. stating the movie dragged, but the whole pacing of the movie ws slow since the beggining so i though the movie was just like that. it wasent liek really funny, then slow for a while... it was pretty much always slow, with laughts spread through the film.

Saw the movie twice in spanish (to be fair, the original person who dubbed Smart on the original show, did Smart again)...and it didn't blow my mind. But yet, it didn't bore me the second time, I actually enjoyed it. I give it a 2/5, however, once I see it in english (not soon of course, even when I love Carrell!) I might give it a 3/5...
