Finally, I am a proud owner of the XA2! Now I know what everyone is talking about when they talk about this machine. First of all it's built like a tank. This thing is sturdy and tough! I got it for $270 and it's in excellent condition. I did update it to 2.7 and I think I'm going to keep it with that because I know 3.0 isn't much from the reviews that I have read. I know there's a lot of talk with SUC lately but the XA2 has all the up conversion that I need. I popped in Hero and forward it to the falling leaves fight and all I can say is HOT DAMN!!! Sharp as a knife! Now I gotta decide which to have as my dedicated player and my back up my XA2 as my player and my A-35 as my back up or vice versa.

Congrats on your purchase. I've been wanting an HD-XA2 for a long time. I was just watching Aliens the extended version and it looked pretty good on my PS3 and 1080p TV. You're right about upconversion, people that have HD-DVD and Blu-ray players and even the ones who own regular upconverting DVD players are not going to double-dip just because the next thing comes along.

Darn, good price. I've been watching eBay for some time, and these things are always ending at near $400. Course they're in the USA and ship to Canada by UPS which only adds insult to the injury!

Jeravicious you're one lucky guy. At that price I would have purchased it also but not at $400 like Skyhawk was saying.

Toshiba upgraded my HD A2 to an HD A3 because the A2 had some problems. I'm happy with the A3 and the PS3. If I see an HD XA2 for around $300 I'll jump on it though.

Hey good show man! Now we just have to get Skyhawk and Tony into machine! Good price by the way. I've been checking E-Bay from week to week, for a second unit. Check out Stardust on you XA2, that is cool! Smoking Aces looks sweet too.

Thanks guys!! I was watching more movies with this last night and so far every HD DVD and DVD I gave it, it played. No problems at all.

I would have to agree with you on that. I know the SUC may be a great technology, but I feel that it's a step back that Toshiba is doing. If they did this before HD DVD then that would have been coo, but not now.

Aw man I know what you mean Sky. Well the guy I bought this from owns a surround sound buisness that gets plenty of HD DVD players and Blu ray players. Lucky me I got the last one he had but he said they may get more XA2's, I just gotta call. So If you guys want I can give him a call every now and then to see if he has any players. Just let me know.

What update did you get and what was wrong with your machine? Was it the current firmware? I was thinking of updating the A2 for the hell of it but last time I played it (last week) it worked fine. Let me know whats up.

It really is a top notch player. It is my main HD DVD and DVD deck in the projector room.

the hd-a35 is fantastic, too. john and i (and many others) were able to get ours for just $169 at amazon.com via a third-party vendor. the 3rd-gen upscaling is prolly not as good as the hd-xa2, though the differences are negligible.

I have a A35, and I must say, it is no where near the PQ of the XA2. Absolutely no comparison. I hate to argue with you on that one, but the PQ is flawless on the XA2. Fast motion images on the A35 left some loss in detail. However good, but also lacked in its ability to scale DVD in the same manner. I found with some HD DVD's that these faint lines would appear from time to time in the 1080p settings. As I set the player back to 1080i, they would dissappear. American Gangster is where I really noticed it. It almost appeared as certain lighting contrasts would develop you could see almost those LCD light to dark contrasts in color show up. Weird, maybe it was only my machine. I got so pissed, that I finally ended up returning it after a week of watching movies. That's why I'm on a mission to find another XA2. Anyways, A35 is a good deck, and I'm sure you guys arn't as fussy about silly shit like I am.

I also got my A35 through amazon for a good deal too! It out preforms any other hi-def players that I've seen, but compared to the XA2 it's a toss up. I've read that the A35's HD PQ is better than the XA2's. But the XA2's upscale is better thanthe A35 and I think we can all agree to that because of the Reon chip. As of right now I got my XA2 as my main player and put the A35 in my room. You really can't go wrong with these two players. Toshiba truely made two gems and if you can get your hands on these, I say take them.

I also contacted the guy who I bought my player from and they have not recieved any more XA2's but they have recieved more A30's which are also great machines.
