Wow. Incredible for such small devices but I guess with all the computing power they both have (PS3 and XBOX 360) it kinda makes sense.

Yeah, but does it have a freezer compartment? Or a vegetable keeper? Ha! I'll keep the old fridge.

Well, xbox 360 is starting production of the third revision (third motherboard with lower power consumption chips) which should cut down significantly on the power usage. It's called the Jasper I believe. I think someone here mentioned this before. August is the start date for that production so if you havn't gotten one yet and want to...wait a bit longer, lol.

Yeah I brought up info about the Jasper motherboard when a pricedrop was mentioned. The old 360's consumed alot of power.

Have you seen the massive brick the 360's have attached to their powercords? That thing alone looks like a small generator.

Fridges dont use as much power as you would think.

Also my ps3 is like at least 8 times as fun as my fridge so I think its a good deal.

Don't forget that it states this energy consumption is when the game consoles are in standby mode. I'm guessing when you play a game or watch a movie/video the consumption goes up a lot higher.

I just flip the switch on the PS3 to OFF when I'm not using it.

Problem solved.

Absolutely true. To avoid standby power consumption you will have to pull the plug or hit the off switch.

I actually has installed main switches for each of my rooms. One for the home office, one for the home theater and one for the game/tv room. This way I can completely turn off all devices using one switch when I do not use them.

Using this and thinking more cleverly about how I use electricity I was able to save 50% on my bill compared to previous years. Not bad for me or the environment

This girl would seem to disagree...

She actually says it is more fun than any gaming console!

You know this news article is wrong. The PS3 uses only 2.3 watts in standby which btw is less than the 360 (at 2.8). The thing is the Aussie magazine actually ran the PS3's in idle NOT standby. Big difference since idle means not turning off the system which would then consume about 181 watts.

Anyways just thought everyone should be informed of the proper information.

I don't own one. . .

Problem solved!

EDIT: Then again, I knew there was a good reason the PS3 converted into a nice cooking grill.

Surprisingly, the PS3 doesn't take much more power when playing games or Blu-ray:

http://www.hardcoreware.net/reviews/review-356-1.htm

In the link above, the 4 page examination of the power consumption of the 3 consoles uses the old PS3. If my fridge could play Blu-ray, I probably wouldn't have a PS3. Plus my cold beer would be stashed in the HT room

You would have to be silly to leave your PS3 in idle anyways though. A better comparison would have been if you left your ps3 in the standby not idle. Or perhaps if you left your fridge door open and PS3 in idle.

Leaving it idle is silly especially with all the heat these consoles generate. Leaving it on standby means the machine is practically off, as in it's waiting for a signal to turn it on and boot up. Very surprising that it uses that much power in standby mode when it's doing nothing.

Again if it was idle that would be a different story cause the graphics are still being sent to the TV, etc.

I wouldn't call the XBox 360's 2.5 watts a lot of power while in standby. Everything's relative I suppose.
