Don't forget that it states this energy consumption is when the game consoles are in standby mode. I'm guessing when you play a game or watch a movie/video the consumption goes up a lot higher.
Absolutely true. To avoid standby power consumption you will have to pull the plug or hit the off switch.
I actually has installed main switches for each of my rooms. One for the home office, one for the home theater and one for the game/tv room. This way I can completely turn off all devices using one switch when I do not use them.
Using this and thinking more cleverly about how I use electricity I was able to save 50% on my bill compared to previous years. Not bad for me or the environment

This girl would seem to disagree...

She actually says it is more fun than any gaming console!

You know this news article is wrong. The PS3 uses only 2.3 watts in standby which btw is less than the 360 (at 2.8). The thing is the Aussie magazine actually ran the PS3's in idle NOT standby. Big difference since idle means not turning off the system which would then consume about 181 watts.
Anyways just thought everyone should be informed of the proper information.

I don't own one. . .
Problem solved!
EDIT: Then again, I knew there was a good reason the PS3 converted into a nice cooking grill.
