NO, They are in Competition still. They are the only two formats available for purchase or rent. Blu-Ray is currently trying to gain market share to compete with DVD. Yes, they are two different pictures, and two different sound dynamics, but at the End of the day you do have the choice to select a DVD or a Blu-Ray disc. Therefore there is a competition of which one do you choose! Blu-Ray is trying to dominate the market as the new technology of choice. Last time I checked at the rental store, I chose to rent a DVD over the Blu-Ray version. Reason why, I do not have a Blu-Ray machine at the Cabin. That was a choice. If I was worried about my picture quality on my 8 year old 27" JVC and my $80 Pansonic DVD player, I would have packed up the Blu-Ray HTPC, and might as well packed up the 22"LCD monitor as well, just for HD. In my mind they are incompetition. You gotta remember that DVD currently has over 3 Billion players out there. So, Blu-Ray has a little catching up to do...

Considering the age of DVD and Blu-Ray, isn't that a little like asking why a three year old can't type a coherent sentence when a 13 year old can?

It is competition.
Age bears no comment. Is it fair to say that if VHS was till around, it would be a market competition against DVD and Blu-Ray? There are some people out there still do not own a DVD player. We all know that VHS is not available anymore, but if they did it would be a competing format. So the AGE argument is Null and Void. If Blu-Ray is to succeed, (which it probably will) it has to compete against DVD to get penetration. I am correct, am I not?
BTW, You should read

No, that's what I think of this thread, and where it's going... DOWN THE CRAPPER! You know I thought most Brits were Intelligent, until you showed up. Really, you obviously did clue into the jokes associated with this thread.

I don't think I ever said it wasn't. Only that it was like comparing apples to five month old apples.

Different markets, though. Most people would be buying DVD's and not VHS for the better quality, longevity and the "new" aspect.

You are correct in that. However, the only point I was trying to make was age is a factor if someone expects BD to do DVD type numbers right now, at which time age comes into play. That's it.

^ I'm not sure what you're apologizing for, but I do have a very thick skin and not a lot offends me. So it's all good. (Now, if you meant it maliciously, we'd have an issue. But I don't think anything you've said has been malicious.)
