Joe,

Bush had a Republican Congress who did everything he wanted. But you are right: he has a very low veto total. 10, actually. Funny, though, that since the Dems took Congress, he's vetoed 11 bills. One previous to that.

Funny, isn't it?

Jason, yes, I do keep up

Bush is the most veto-less president in history...but boy the ones he did were doozies!

Against stem-cell research, against veteran care and money for Katrina recovery, health insurance for children, medicare improvements...well, you get the gist.

EDIT: and that's right Jason...that one veto was pre-2007 when the Democrats took over congress.

Hey Jason... it wasn't just the Repub-controlled Congress (before 2006) that voted for everything Bush wanted. You know how we hear from Obama that "McCain voted for Bush policies 90-95% of the time." Well, what Obama's -NOT- telling you is that he himself has voted for Bush policies (since 2004 when he assumed U.S. Senatorial office) about 75% of the time!

See, the media usually won't tell you this, but somebody checked it out. Many of the votes are either "proceedural" votes, or SHOCK! - Obama actually agreed with some of ole George's bills (or the other way around, and Bush signed into law bills that the Dems also want... but we'll overlook this since it conflicts with the Bush-hating side).

OK Eddie... we've discussed before about Repub Tom Delay, and that he perhaps abused his leadership position. But to me it's not different than Pelosi's behaviour right now, refusing to allow new votes on energy policy until she's good and ready... despite promises 2 years ago to "CHANGE" (there's that word!) the way the Speaker of the House conducted the Congress.

Don't worry... if Obama wins you can bet the Dems will definitely go after Bush/Cheney after they leave office. It's what that nerd Sen. Dennis Kucinich wants, and of course Michigan's John Conyers has always desired an impeachment (or charges) against Bush... heck he even wanted his dad charged with "war crimes" for the first Iraq war (if I remember right).

Arab trivia Eddie... they invented and/or furthur developed many things with the "AL" part of the word, such as alcohol, algebra (math) etc. That's what I read years ago in a book (I think it was called A History of the Arab Peoples).

Kilgore... neither President Bush or many other Repubs are against "stem-cell research". What they -are- against is TAXPAYER'S MONEY going for such research. Nowhere is anyone or any company, researcher, etc prohibited from spending their own money (or donations) for this area of research - it's not illegal you know. But the President does not agree with spending taxpayer's money on it. What little I've read about it is mainly theory, with little evidence from tests so far of the desired and expected "breakthrough" that is hoped for.

Joe,

Not once did I ever say Obama was a saint, god, perfect or anything like that. Not once. But at the very least he gets his information straight (no pun intended) where McCain can't. Obama didn't pick Hillary and pander to the party. Obama may have voted for Iraq (I have to double check), but he sees the folly of it now.

Besides, simple math says this: 90% or 95% > 75%.

Jason, really going to bed now

I enjoy talking with you Jason (you know that) - Eddie too.

Just one more thing though... since you brought up Hillary just now. If Obama loses, much of the blame (criticism) will be placed on his decision not to chose her as his running mate. Think about this for a second Jason... this nightmare... Obama might lose by not having chose Hillary (who's extremely well-known, and long-popular among Dems), only to see McCain win by how? By his choice of a woman who was NOT extremely well-known (before), and has NOT been long-popular among Repubs (until just recently). WoW!

So... will you be celebrating Nov 4... or reaching for some Alka-Seltzer?

^Don't forget the great Italian food (and scenery too)!

Jason (& others), as part of being "Fair & Balanced" (ala Fox News), I'll admit the following about the Dems, and the Presidential race... Obama can win if he keeps up his attack/message about the state of the economy. I'm not saying thus means he's necessarily qualified in the economy or going to work the 'miracle' that's truly needed, but that the ECONOMY is the #1 issue right now, and Obama's rise in the polls last week proves that people are responding to his message.

I like to watch CNBC, and even though they cater to business, they often show clips as well as actual interviews with Dems on the finance/budget committees, and I do find myself appealing to some of the ideas and policies that high-profile Dem members put forth. I may rail against the Dems on energy, but they are strong when dealing with the economy, with the big three of importance being Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd, and Charles Schumer.

Of course both sides cater to lobbyists, and also overspend (raise taxes etc), but I just wanted to be fair that, when it comes to the economy the Repubs have not produced any better results than what the Dems have done, or could have done if they [Dems] had also controlled the White House during the past 8 years. So, if Obama hammers home his economic message over the final 7 weeks (and avoid the Palin issue), he very well could end up becoming President. Then, the Dems would hold total power... but will also be expected to produce major "change" and/or results.

"Results"... remember early on in Ghostbusters, when the Dan Ackroyd character says something like: "You don't know how it is out there in the private sector. I've worked there before - they expect results".

So.. Obama + Economic message focus, can = Nov victory

Fair & Balanced message brought to you by Love Hendrix! (or Jimi Love as Tim and Tony like to refer to me).

Here's an interview with Barack Obama by the Philadelphia Gay News...

http://www.epgn.com/

I have to say, I really love the way Obama handles himself. He's a good talker.

BTW, it looks like McCain wanted nothing to do with this same interview.
