As far as I could see, there was no "clear" winner in the debate, but this was McCain's opportunity to show how much stronger he was on foreign policy than Obama, and knocked it out of the park. The fact that he didn't, and against a "less-experienced" opponent like Obama shows only served to demonstrate that Obama's "understanding" (to coin McCain's overused word of the night) was far deeper than the Republicans would wish the American people to think. The fact that McCain could not deliver that knockout blow only served to solidify Obama's bearing as a future President. Obama defended himself capably in foreign matters, as far as I'm concerned.
The rest of the debates are going to be steered away from Iraq, and global concerns now, and will play to Obama's strong suit now. We will see if Obama will deliver that same "knockout" punch.
As for the VP debate, as long as Joe Biden keeps his cool, he will destroy Palin. Hell, if Katie Couric can give Palin problems, how will she handle Biden.
EDIT: Fuggetaboutit.

But for all of the criticism (and hate), the more I learn about her the more confident I am that she is respectful of her office/position, a dedicated employee, strong personal values, and is respectful of our Constitution... (although I know you've [Eddie] stated that you don't agree with all of the details from the signers of the Constitution, as previously indicated).
Obama should have waited until later in his life to run (IMO). He can win the election still, but we are all worried about what the future holds for our country (no matter who wins) with all of the bad economic news over the past few years. We do have a decent economy, but it's been slipping downward, and much of the blame is too much debt, overspending, bad investments (and unworthy mortgages.). etc

I saw that moment on CNN as it occurred when John King read the fax. It's too bad you didn't pick up on John's "well it didn't take the Republican's long to dredge this up" tone.
Kissinger's denial was that he never said a president should sit down in negotiations without preconditions, and this in fact is true, and is in agreement with Obama. Kissinger did not deny that a lesser government official, like a Secretary of State, should in fact be able to sit down in negotiations without preconditions, which is also Obama's position.
Keep on spinning away, Joe. Maybe you'll be able to find some other Republican fabrication that is so compelling a facsimile, it might even pass for truth.
Kissinger is for negotiations without preconditions, just not with the President. Case closed. If he says otherwise, he's lying. It's that simple.

...the US economy is weak and fragile. Why can't you and McCain get that through your heads?

Me spin? (LOL) ... -YOU- and other Dems can try to "explain away" what Obama did in that 2007 debate, but the videotape (that CNN showed) reveals otherwise. Obama is seen replying to the YouTube question then that -HE- would sit down without preconditions with the Iran leader, the S. Korea lader, Chavez (Venezuela), etc and hold talks. -HE- period.
THEN, once the publicity surrounding his blunder was made widely known (for once the media didn't suppress this!) - along with Clinton and Biden's own rebuttal of Obama - only THEN did Obama re-do his opinion to state that any talks would first have to be negotiated with the secretary of state, and other staff etc.
Obama blundered, and even since he's tried to say otherwise. He can't have it both ways.
No spin necessary. Just watch the 2007 clip again.

Direct quote from Katie Couric: “Incidentally, we confirmed Henry Kissinger’s position following her interview. He told us he supports talks, if not with Ahmadinejad, then with high level Iranian officials . . . without preconditions.”
I can't imagine a tape does not exist of that conversation, interview or chat and I'm sure it will come up sooner or later.
