I see nothing on that list that looks any good. But thanks for letting us know about the sale.

Of course, it's a list of fabulous movies and it's hard to go wrong with them. If I didn't already have them, I'd be buying!

Among recent ones: Mishima, High and Low, The Fire Within.

Even if you want to stick to just American films, there are plenty of great choices. Two Lane Blacktop, Ace in the Hole for starters. And if you're into Welles, then "F for Fake" is a must-own.

You can, of course, read our comprehensive selection of Criterion reviews by searching any title in the database.

Lots of great titles in this sale!

I picked up The Naked City, and Gimme Shelter (<which although I own on LD, I'll take the discounted DVD too). Might order a few more too. Note: you rarely see a nice Criterion sale like this one (BOGO), so take advantage while you can folks!

And if you are a fan of Kubrick's Spartacus, realize that the Criterion edition is the only release with superior audio and video mastering. Both the regular Universal DVD and HD-DVD versions look poorly, and not recommended, according to reviews I've come across.

Well, the two titles I ordered have a net price of $16 & change <definitely not too much for a Criterion edition.

Remember, the company pays a licensing fee to the copyright holder, for the right to sell editions under their name (as they don't own much of their distributed content outright). In the past I've seen Criterion LaserDiscs and DVDs priced easily at $34.95 and higher, so for $16 net I definitely appreciate the discount... as I wonder what the future Criterion Blu-ray MSRPs will be?

Still, if you are a fan of their quality and special features, the Criterion editions are the way to go for your very favs that they license the rights to.

I picked up Eyes Without A Face, Solaris, Peeping Tom, and The Vanishing. That's quite an overwhelming list.
