MTV is doing the time warp on a remake of 1975 cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."
Lou Adler, exec producer of the original film, is partnering with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios on the new rendition.

Two-hour remake will use the original screenplay by Jim Sharman and Richard O'Brien but may also include music not featured in the original.

Helmer and casting decisions have yet to be announced.

IMO, cult classics should never be remade. People draw to cult films over a long period of time making them somewhat ageless and timeless, that's what makes them cult films. It seems almost insulting to remake a cult film. Again, just my opinion.

Tim I completely agree. the only time I could see a "remake" being a good idea is for a futuristic type movie or a movie with lots of special effects that could be improved greatly. Then again they could just re-release the same movies with updated effects like we've seen with some of the sci-fi classics.

I honestly have a feeling that this film won't make it through production.

And speaking of remaking cult classics, on Dec. 12 Twentieth Century Fox will give us "The Day the Earth Stood Still," this time with Keanu Reeves in the old Michael Rennie part. I dunno....

Yeah, I read about that too, John. I'm not sure if I'd classify "The Day the Earth Stood Still" as a cult film, but probably an old sci-fi classic for many people. That one kind of interests me as to what will come of it, but it isn't like the old classic doesn't get the point across -- therefore, does it really need a remake?

I also heard that "Time Bandits" is up for a remake, and I can see where that might be fun with some new CGI. Hell, I wouldn't mind if they'd do a remake of "Highlander" with all the new CGI available.

I think the thing I'm driving at with "cult" films is many of them are trashy to begin with. I mean, look at Rocky Horror, it's really a bad film but that's what made it fun just because it was trash. This is why I disagree with remaking it because the point of the movie was to be crap and that's what made it fun. So, to remake the movie is like saying "we're going to improve upon it" when the most die-hard fan of the film might feel insulted by that. Oh, well, just a thought.
