Wow, that's really bad. It basically looks like they made the least effort possible on this set. I don't think it would have cost much to add disc art, one would think. Are they trying to send a message or something (like paying last respects to HD DVD with a blank side, haha)?

i wonder if they basically used the combo discs that had already been set aside for the production run but just didn't encode the hd dvd side?

yup. thats exactly what they did. how many discs are their in this set? ( the old set had 6-7.) i cannot believe that they didn't encode the hd-dvd side, that is just so so stupid. expec. considering that their only going to press a pretty limited amount. just how much more would it have cost them to encode the hd side? prob, not much assuming that they already had it ready to go.

they just didn't want to appear to be supporting a dead format, but failed to realize that their are millions of players and people around the world that would prob. eat this up just because it is something "new" for hd-dvd.

there are eight discs. the previous sd dvd box set has seven discs. the S1 hd dvd/dvd combo set has 10 discs.

i'm typing my review right now...will post a link soon.

Was gonna ask for you to try to play the disc on the other side but you already did to no avail... ...good that I'm not a Trek fan...yet...

the cbs rep is sending me another copy. she told me that several reviewers' copies were damaged/problematic.
