This could be an interesting movie one day. My vote goes to Michael Cain for the role of Howard Stringer.

I'm a Blu-Ray supporter myself now, but it's still nice to see that there were some payoffs, after hearing so many gloating early Blu adopters saying that no such thing ever happened. I am surprised it was only to Lionsgate and Best Buy, though, but I'm sure more will come out over the coming years. And yes, paying for something the company would have had to pay for themselves does constitute a payoff.

Does any one else think that Stringer looks like he is crazy as hell in the above picture?

This is just another proof that Blue Ray won mostly due to back door negotiations between Sony and the different players in the distribution chain.

Of course its pointless now crying over spilled milk and its best just to move on but I wonder if some of the movie companies who firmly backed blu-ray now regret their management decisions in lieu of the present U.S. economy. I still feel there was enough room in the market for both formats to coexists. And if it were true that consumers were confused by multiple formats and needed only one format we all know that hd dvd was better positioned in terms of price, hardware, and coexistance with dvd to be that one format. Oh well, there goes my rant over the milk again. Back to work.

How Sony won over HD-DVD? Shouldn't it say how Blu-ray or the BDA won over HD-DVD. Sony has to be the leader of the BDA, I don't care if people say it a group and nobody leads it. If Sony didn't have the most control then why do articles like this always mention Sony?

As for Microsoft not wanting to make a Blu-ray add-on, my response is who in their right mind would want to try to get into the Blu-Ray market right now when Sony controls 95 - 98% of the Blu-Ray market? I'm sure Panasonic, Pioneer, Samsung, and all the other CE companies making stand alone Blu-Ray players are just thrilled with their combined 2 - 5% marketshare.

http://blogs.barrons.com/techtraderdaily/2008/07/02/sony-us-exec-says-no-demand-impact-from-slowdown-struggling-with-higher-shipping-costs/

On Blu-Ray players, Glasgow says the company has 46% market share in units, 44% in dollar, if you don’t count the Playstation 3. With PS3, the total is in the 95%-98% range.
