Quote:How Sony won over HD-DVD? Shouldn't it say how Blu-ray or the BDA won over HD-DVD. Sony has to be the leader of the BDA, I don't care if people say it a group and nobody leads it. If Sony didn't have the most control then why do articles like this always mention Sony?
The article deals with what Sony did in the war and it indicates that it was the main company behind the deals and negotiations.

oh. this is easy. PLAYSTATION 3.

back door deals? wtf?

i dont think that ANYBODY has too much faith in a high def. optical disc format.

the next revolution will be DD. upscaled to their highest resolutions.

and why not? thats what the people want! video on demand..no more video stores..you just sit at home and type in the movie that you want to watch..at anytime..anyday.

think BLOCKBUSTER...and you own it...

Do you pay once, and own the whole store? Then it would be like owning your own Blockbuster. Otherwise, with no device capable of storing a large collection of HD movies (and, in order to take over for hard media, their additional features), you would need to pay every time you wanted to watch a movie from your store, even if you'd already watched it. Who'd want to own a store like that? You're a big fan of pushing downloads, but have you actually ever thought about it? I don't think I've ever seen a post outlining how HD downloads can duplicate every aspect of HD discs, including features, sound options, re-watchability, storage, etc. I'd love to see that.

DD and VOD will never match the completeness of a Optical, or other viable media. With the increased storage compacity of Flash Media, we may see Memory Sticks featured with copywritten Media on them first.

All I can say is Blu-ray won but IMO the way the economy is going makes me think I can live with out one for now. So I will live with DVD.

I think it would be cool having flash drives replace disks. they are tiny but downloads are only fun until your hard drive dies and everything is gone. That is why I like cds to itunes.

Downloads are catching up with consumers now because the stigma that downloading is illegal is becoming more clear as to what is legal an illegal.
We all watched college kids being sued be downloading illegal music, so average joe conusmer automatically thought downloading movies was illegal, nobody did it.
Now with Netflix, Xbox, and Cable and Satellite companies educating people, the download demand is on the rise.
I do not know of any storage medium that can handle HD media so I am inclined to think they had better pick up the pace to survive longer than five years. I have heard more about download and VOD than Blu ray at this point (from stores, customers, friends and families) so the option to download Blu Ray better come quick or be left behind. My wife has fallen in love with Slingbox and is actively seeking more information on downloads and VOD.

Silverado, actually it's streaming not downloading and the problem is that for new releases you have to have cable or sat and they don't offer much of a library for older films on VoD. With netflix there is no such thing as streaming a new release because their main cash cow is disk rental but they do offer TV shows, classic movies, concerts, and documentaries. Therefore you're paying two services to get what you want.
