My first player updated just fine(firmware 3.0). So out of excitement I went to update the second player of same model. It was hooked up to a UPS so no power outage would brick it. It completed the update and turned off(normal). However, when I turned it back on it stuck on the "Welcome" display and would go no further. I googled this problem and within in a few minutes found someone else that had the same problem. Now I don't think I will even try with the third machine.

Has anyone who tried update had the same problem?

I did it didn't have any problem like that. But I was having a bid of a play back issue with a SD-DVD from netflix. The disk looked brand new. And I am having an Issue with fast forwarding. I only own about 10 HD-DVDs so I if it breaks I am not going to mail it back just replace it with Blu-ray.

Well, this player freezes on some HD DVDs. So I was hoping for a fix in this update.

Pretty strange, however I do have the 3.0 updated on my A30 but I have found the biggest problem for me is playing backed dvd's. The media source/burned movie using DYNEX plays fine for the first 5 to ten minutes then it start crapping out, meaning it pauses then plays (chopped pixels on the screen as if it was a bad HD signal and trying to recover).

When I insert the same disc in to my panasonic dvd player or trutech player, no problem.

Anyone out there having the same problem with DYNEX DVD media?

One more thing, the way I fix it is to re-burn using SONY blank DVD media and it plays fine on the A30?

Strange but true.

Then, I take the LOL back.

I know people who upgrade to the latest service packs and latest firmware the day they come out. Most of the time, people upgrade just to upgrade.

Again, sorry about that. Hope u find a fix.

I left both my XA2 and A3 on 2.7 firmware respectivly, and can play all burnt media! I have head that all player have had issues with burnt media, with the newer firmware updates. I'm still looking at Toshiba to lift the component video playback limitations for DVD. My Second TV does not have HDMI. But my burnt discs playback at 1080i through component video!

lol

toshitba is probably bricking old hd-dvd players, so that the gumps who were ripped off into buying them in the first place, will now buy some crappy upscaling players from em aswell.

i dont feel sorry for any gump who purchased hd-dvd players, that are now mysteriously bricking after firmware updates

tough shit

Thanks for your input no matter how stupid it was Honky(you are either a user of VHS still or a Blu Troll). It went in one ear and out the other. Now if someone who actually has info on this would respond I'd appreciate it.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say Honkyspade is a reincarnation of someone we've had on these forums before. Just a wild guess.
