Clearly, Sony is one of the greadiest dumbest companies on the planet. They win the format war, but don't lower the prices so people can purchase their products during a financial crisis in the country but figure instead that since their is no competition they can charge whatever the fu#k they want for their products.

Clearly, as each day ticks by we are getting closer to the next "big thing" to take BluRays place. I'll admit I was on the HDDVD bandwagon, but when Bluray won I was ready to adopt...but I'm not going to pay those prices!

You've got dish network saying they're going to be streaming 1080p bluray quality within the next 6-12 months.

You've got netflix and Xbox Live joining up streaming their movies too.

WTF does Sony expect me to pay $34.99 for motherf*cking ROCKY!?

They're shooting everyone in the foot by not lowering prices, and if they don't do it dramtatically by the end of the year, I think they will have ruined BluRay for everyone.

Am I alone out there with this idea, or do others agree with me?

Sony does not expect you to pay $34.00 for "Rocky". 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment does. Actually, Fox's list price has dropped to $29.98 for this title allowing Amazon and other retailers to sell it for less than $20.

Hope that helps.

I appreciate the update, but clearly you are missing the point. BluRay discs at this point in the game (2 years into the format) are way too expensive.

Nobody in their right mind with the way the economy is going, is going to drop down $30 for a movie, when upscaling dvd players do a close and decent job.

I want HD I want it bad, but I am not willing to pay the current price for it, and the point I was making was because of the greed 20th century fox or whoever is making these movies, is asking waaay too much.

No competition no bargain.

Hence why the format war benefited the consumer, of course, up to a certain point. Once you are the only supplier, you can set the prices at any rate you want, so why lower them? Why start making less money when you have to make up for whatever was spent to win the war?

There is no competing format that can store 50 GB of HD media yet, so blu-ray is the only one on the race (or in the expressway, since it already won...OK, I'm not good at this things), so it can go as fast or as slow as it wants. Sadly for us. But didn't WB at least lower its prices??

Alot of your beloved HD-DVD counter parts were higher than the same movies on Blu-ray, so what's your point. DVD prices were the same in it's first two years of being on the market. I've got one word for you, AMAZON.

Another SONY TOOK MY LOLLYPOP THREAD.

Personally I think with the down turn in our economy it doesn't make since to go out and buy a $400+ fancy DVD player. Because really that is all Blu-Ray is. I want one but I don't have to have it to be able to enjoy movies and I don't have to be able to enjoy movies to live. These are just wants. You do not have to have Blu-Ray. I think DVD looks better than spending 400 or more dollars. Because I would rather have 400 bucks.

GreenLantern,

I TOTALY AGREE! I want HD bad too but I will not buy for these outrageous prices. If you remember: DVDs cost $20 bucks when they were introduced. Say what you want about things costing more now but CDs have really not changed in price. IF anything they have gotten cheaper. I cannot see paying $30-$35 for a movie on disc. Players should be $200 and discs $20 and that is being generous to the greedy hollywood BAS**RDS(Sony of course included).

Why do you keep comparing things that took place years ago? Remember that VHS vs. DVD is a clearly big leap, but blu-ray vs. HD DVD vs. DVD is not that much. You went from a big plastic block with tape that you had to rewind, to a small disc that gave you many options and better quality (regardless of scratching). To one disc to a bigger capacity disc, nothing else.

I wish. Sadly, many DVD titles I paid over $40 for are now available in the Walmart throwaway bins. I remember when the Matrix came out, $24 at Walmart. It was the cheapest I had ever seen a new release disk, and helped set a trend.

Yeah I remember when DVD's were all 29.99 and I at the time still being in early high school didn't have a DVD except on my computer, and I thought no one will buy these when they can have VHS but they are cool though. And look now I just bought resevoir dogs for 5 bucks at walmart.
