View profile »Oh yeah, it's a FULL-BLOWN computer too. Total HTPC cost: $500. Until blu-ray players retail for around $150 & under (not to mention blu-ray movies for UNDER $20 RETAIL)... I can't justify buying a $400 hidef player, & replacing my DVD collection for about $700 (a little over 50 DVD titles).

Some of their invented elsewhere woes:
Walk Man- surely not Sony as recent court results show.
Video disk Magnavox
CD- Mainly Phillips
DVD codecs and compression: C Cube, Dolby, Analog etc..
Patents to produce Blue Diodes- More American stuff- Columbia University and co.
Cell: IBM did not sell them the PPC architecture, PPC is the core of Cell. Toshiba has a large share in cell too.

View profile »No, the GREED 'N STUPID TROPHY goes to Sony. Congratulations to their memorable "proprietary downfalls:
- the betamax
- the mini disc
- the mp3 'bean' player
- their own online mp3 portal / store
- the memory stick flash card (twice the cost at QUADRUPLE the physical size, compared to a microSD - with the same comparable data size)... the worse part = no other brand but sony uses the junk.
- last but not least: The final days of the Sony PSP- COMPLETELY HACKED & Sony has no answer nor firmware fix for it (two firmware versions has since been announced & both were USELESS against the hack). Sure the Nintendo DS is also compromised, but -unlike the DS with a NECESSARY hack adapter that costs over $50- it doesn't cost a player a SINGLE PENNY to modify the OS of the PSP.

I didn't buy a player until 2-years after SD DVDs inception. Back then, the average cost of a DVD movie was $25 -- yes, there were a few cheap ones but they were always movies you'd never have your best friends suffer through. Point being, the "good" movies were always closer to $30 and some even more.

I'm sure all you will come up with is some nonsensical bashing of Toshiba/HD-DVD
Your one of those Blu-trolls that came about after Toshiba threw in the towl.
