Looks like the new ps3 firmware update is causing problems for some users. Not sure how prevalent it is since of course there are 360 fanboys that are probably making up some of the stories but it still makes me nervous. I haven't updated to 2.4 since I heard all of the complaints. Now I'm even more nervous. I guess I will have to just sell my ps3 and get a stand alone blu-ray player. I just can't be biting my nails every time I do a fw update knowing that if my 60gb goes out Sony won't replace it with the same emotion engine motherboard.

You can read the story here if desired:

Sony really need to step up.

First, the fact that you need to firmware upgrade your unit every other week is a problem for many to begin with. Add to that the risk of getting a bricked Playstation 3.

Luckily my unit have had no problems so far.

I'm not too worried, I've never had issues with updates since day one...

I just looked at the sony bdp-s350. It looks pretty good. Time to use my ebay account.

And Henning I think Sony's new policy on ps3 fw update testing is to just release the updates and wait and see if it messes up any systems. Hopefully this won't transfer over to their blu-ray players or we may have another sony class action lawsuit.

That's funny cause Microsoft did the same with the 360 hardware.

That's why I waited about 2 years after the release of the 360 before buying one. You'd think that with all the mocking from Sony users about the RROD that Sony would've been setting a better example than MS. I guess it's to be expected - MS rushed the 360 to beat the PS3's release and the PS3 was rushed to beat HD-DVDs lead over Blu-ray. At this rate, I can afford to wait to get both a PS3 and a SA Blu-ray player.

Wow. I had my listing up for maybe a total of 30 minutes and it already sold. I ordered the Sony s350 online from the sonystyle store so it should arrive by next week. I'm kinda sad to see my ps3 go but I only used it for movies so I guess it would be better off in someone else's possession. I still had my copy of MGS4 factory sealed so I just wasn't playing games on it at all. I'm actually excited. I will finally see those little truehd lights come on for my onkyo receiver.

Ha. Now that is funny. I apologize. I didn't realize you were a member of Sony's pr committee. I did just comment earlier on how I was buying a "sony" blu-ray player. If it makes you feel any better I just spent $100 a few days ago upgrading the memory on my wife's laptop because it came preinstalled with Vista and it just ran too damn slow. I never gave M$ a free pass either. They also have their issues. But to respond to your comment its not really the same. Microsoft released hardware too early because they were trying to beat the competition to market. Sony has had ample time to correct and refine any software or hardware issues since they decided to wait until later to release their gaming system and as they themselves put it so aptly a few years ago "the next generation of gaming doesn't begin until we say it does."

The best part of the whole MS vs Sony thing is that Nintendo is just crushing.
