Not sure where to post this as its not Blu-ray and its not HD-DVD. Heck it's not even HD - but it is what has been getting talked about here for the last while - Oh - does that mean I beating a dead horse again - Sorry.

Quote:
The XDE-E500 DVD player "is not a Blu-ray killer," said the Toshiba executive who ran the demo.

What is it, then? XDE stands for eXtended Definition Enhancement and consists of three circuits. Their names are familiar, because they resemble ordinary TV controls, but that is misleading, because they are more sophisticated than ordinary TV controls.

Hmmmm, that's not bad! I like the way it upconverts too. It will probably go for close to $100 at the holidays. Not bad at all.

Hell, if thems that cheap at Walmart I might recon to take a gander.

Really, if they're going to be that cheap, I'd very interested in buying one and writing a big, fat review of it. I have to admit I'm curious, and at $150 makes it all the more fun.

Intresting. It'low price makes me wonder if it is an entry level model for later higher end players. I'd like to look at it. Steve

As Tim said, a recon mission will be order before shelling out for this. If this is a nice improvement over a regular upconverting player than this would be nice for the bedroom as the article stated. I commend Toshiba for stating, "it's not a Blu-ray killer" therefore not creating consumer confusion as to the potential of this technology

This would be good if the upconversion is better than the PS3s. I could use the Toshiba for DVD's and the PS3 for BD's thus adding life to me PS3. One thing I found in disagreement with the article is that the cheapest price for a basic BD player is not $399 actually almost $150 less.

I think this may be marketing at work. That way you can't be shot down in flames. If you say its not something then you can't be criticized for not being that. However if the critics then go on to say what you want them to say and this first review of a first generation has not ruled it out....

Tony.... you really are a assistant in a Sony style outlet. Never mind you could alway knuckle down and work your way up to walmart ( or ASDA in the UK)..

Don't worry - Sony has to beat that one for another six to eight years before that horse comes home.
