Just though i'd start a thread so people will know which blu-rays are worth buying and which are not, please feel free to add which films you think rock on blu-ray. I believe peoples personal opinions speak a million words more than the official reveiws.

shoot em up

i robot

the island

cars

rattatouie

nin-beside you in time

beowulf

i am legend

sweeny todd

ghost rider

hellboy

casino royale

black hawk down

30 days of night

no country for old men

3:10 to yuma

remember folks these versions blow their dvd/upscaled counterparts away.

Casino Royale on dvd looks pretty good on my ps3, I dont see how the blu ray can "blow away" the dvd. I think more of older movies like The Searchers and The Road Warrior who haven't had a great transfer on dvd but on blu they look incredible.

I disagree with Shoot Em Up. While the Blu is excellent, the SD was one of the best I've seen. The Blu was a step up, but not to the extent that some films are. I Robot is noticeably better, but the Kubrick films are the ones that truly blow me away in high def. Also Planet Earth and Galapagos.

Transporter 2 kicks the DVDs butt. More recently (and I realize it's probably off your radar) the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus Best of Both Worlds 3-D concert came out, and the DVD was lacking the "wow" factor of the Blu-ray.

Yes cars totally rocks on blu-ray easily beating the sd version. I find that all of the cgi films look amazing on blu-ray when stood aginst the sd versions.
Another film that looks really cool on blu-ray is appleseed ex machina, but the funny thing is, most reveiws ive read dont rate it that well. Also i agree that the kubric films look amazing on blu-ray especially 2001.

jim,

you're responding to a known troll who's been banned at least four times during the past two months.

as a staff member, you should know better. instead, you look like you've been had.

What exactly is objectionable about this thread, Eddie? And, if you hate the site so much, as you said in another thread, why are you still here?

interplanetaryspy,

the thread was started by a guy who has been banned repeatedly. instead of responding to him as if he were welcome, everyone should be reporting him to henning or john.

i'm still here out of loyalty to some of the writers, whom i've known for years. when they leave, i'll leave for good, too.

IP,

It's hard sometimes to know who's a troll and who isn't. This particular one, with whom we've had repeated trouble, has been posting under different names for quite some time, occasionally with harmless material but mostly shilling for Blu-ray (posting up to ten or more promotional items a day, either because he's being paid to do so or because he's emotionally challenged and needs the attention).

If he is trolling, fair enough. Compared to some of the idiots who were around here earlier in the year, it doesn't seem so bad. I just think if the intention is to really crack down on those who flood the messageboards with articles and threads that are intended to incite turmoil, paid or not, there are others who should also be considered in violation of policy. And let's face it, there are people on here who search desperately to find any item posted anywhere which has something negative to say about Blu Ray and post it. Isn't that just as bad? Look, I'm not a Blu fanboy - until recently I sulked about the death of HD DVD, but eventually I accepted it and moved on.
