We definitely need a Superman reboot. "Superman Returns" was alright, but I didn't like it being a continuation of the Superman films with Christopher Reeves. Singer should have started over, just like Nolan did with Batman.

Quote:Superman/Clark Kent is just a flat/shallow character.

I'd have to disagree there, Superman has only been flat and Shallow because filmmakers usually portray him this way but there is a tremendous amount of depth that can be mined from him. Think about it he's the last of his race, he has these amazing gifts that he can't really use so he creates this almost god like alter ego. However in order to never cast suspicion on him, he also creates a Clark Kent alter ego, where he is weak and nerdy. Essentially someone you'd never think could be Superman. He essentially can never be himself except when he's at home with his parents.

The problem with the Superman movies is they're still basing them on the out-dated pre-70's version, which was incredibly cheezy and why Singer's continuation/reboot was a bad idea. Unfortunately Singer is a fan of the movies and not of the comics. Specifically the 86 reboot onward. Which is frankly a much more interesting take on Superman.

Whoever helms the new movie for godsakes give us Doomsday!

Singer failed miserably and WB needs to move on and reboot. Get rid of Routh too.

I find Superman to be the much more intriguing character than Batman. Batman is the ultimate adolescent fantasy which is one reason he's so popular: an angry teenager with a fighting man's body spending his life lashing out at everyone who did him wrong, trying desperately to exert control over his environment after he lost all control in his youth. Both as the ersatz playboy Bruce Wayne and the faux-dark crimefighter, Batman will, like Peter Pan, never grow up.

Superman experienced an even greater tragedy than Bruce Wayne, but doesn't use it as a permanent excuse to look down on the world or to separate himself from society (except for those vacations in the Fortress of Solitude). So he's not as _edgy_ as Batman. Big deal.

All I ask for in the next Superman movie is please please please no more Lex Luthor. Any other villain. Just not him. As much as I like the first two Superman movies, even Gene Hackman couldn't breathe life into a poorly-conceived incarnation of Lex Luthor, and neither could Kevin Spacey (though I was less surprised by this). We've been to that well too many times. Hell, I'll even take a CGI Richard Pryor over another Lex Luthor.

Csjlong I agree with you about Lex Luthor. Done to death and I still don't find it realistic that a human, regardless of how badass or evil he can be, can give Superman so much trouble. It's just too unrealistic.

Superman needs an equal, someone that can really destroy him so that people are actually watching with concern for him and hopefully he makes it through alive to continue protecting us.

Lex Luthor = Lame.

Bruce wayne or batman appeal to people more because the character and the world that the story takes place in are rooted down to reality.

Gotham never mirrored reality better, and the plot is believable.
In fact this can go down as another post 9-11 movie. Because all that fear and manipulation (fitting for the Joker character) is not far from reality. That's why you see people identify with such themes more and more now days.

Where as the "man of steel", a guy who with a pair of glasses and different hair fools everyone, can pretty much do everything. He can spin earth the other way and turn back time, he can lift islands out of the water, he can do basically what he desires.

Audiences are more into the little details nowadays, not the bigger-than-life sequences that reek of cgi and lack believability on any level.

I Believe superman has to be shelved for a few years again.
It's darkness time

P.S. And yes, introducing superman's kid was a horrible little idea that should've been thrown out the window the minute it was conceived. Now we have to deal either with spin-off's or a mature superman struggling between saving the world and raising his son. I can see the making of interviews allready "It's all about how although he is superman, he still struggles to cope with raising his son, who turned to the bad side... blah blah blah"

the best moment in "superman 2" is when zod tells the president of the united states that, based on the presidential seal, it seems like americans worship anything that can fly.
