What the hell is all that space for? My computer doesn't have that big of a hard drive, internally. I still wouldn't mind having one though.

Ok, is this the same SONY that has lost 3-billion on the PS3 so far?

So . . . let's sell a unit with a bigger HD as if that will get people to bite! LMAO!!!
What a bunch or morons!
They're losing the console battle so their answer is to sell a BIGGER PS3 . . . yeah, great idea! Of course that unit will probably come at a much higher price, and it's the cost that's killing the PS3 *cough* wii *cough*. Oh well, I'll gladly sit back and watch that ship go down.

My guess is that all of thier new DVD rentals and Blu-Ray rental have a digital copy. This allows their consumers to use the HDD space for the digital copies. With BD live now they have more movies for download. Maybe Sony does realize that Downloads might actually take off...

Still, a bigger hard drive will not solve their major problems. BD players have already dropped in price and will again come the winter holidays making the PS3 uneeded for playing BDs.

I want a cheaper ps3 not a better or bigger one for the same price. I would be happy paying less for a 20gig hard drive. I rent 99% percent of my video games and movies. I don't need space. I don't want to spend 500 bucks though there really isn't that many exclusive games. They can add what ever they want but if it isn't cheap I am not buying it.

Extra HD space doesn't add that much to the cost of manfacturing a PS3. I'm sure the processor and BD Drive are still where the costs are high.

Well the problem with the PS3 is that a big majority of games force you to install them to the HDD.

Blu-ray is just too slow for gaming. I guess Sony realizes that people will need more HDD space for all the game installs.

They could just bump up the speed of the BD drive but that would screw alot of early adopters.

But its not like $ony hasn't screwed people before. Didn't they replace the 80gb PS3 with another 80gb model that has no BC at all recently?

I wonder if this 160gb PS3 will have full backwards compatibility of PS1/PS2 games.

Knowing $ony it most likely won't.

It will not. It is the same core unit as the upcoming 80GB unit. (Two USB, No SD slots, No special PS1/2 chip.)

HD space quickly becomes an issue with a video/game download store and as mentioned some games require as much as 5GB of install space to play.

All that said. Again, nothing in the cards that suggest that Sony will lower the price of the PS3 this year.
