Dude discovers that a numerical sequence reveals disasters to follow.
Goes off to stop'em or smt.

How much more pro-forma can you get?
Why is Nic cage choosing scripts as if we are still in the 90's?
Such a waste ending up a second rate actor.

Well... regardless of whether that film is good or not (or even if you are a fan of Nicolas Cage), the guy is hardly "ending up a second rate actor."

Nic has appeared in many films over the years that had excellent box office results (and/or critical acclaim too), and has lots of worldwide fans that enjoy seeing his work. Yes, he's made some flops, but is constantly working - still an in-demand (bankable) star, unlike other "big name" actors that have made some big flops over the past year (Mike Myers, Kevin Costner, Dustin Hoffman, Tom Cruise, Jennifer Lopez, Brad Pitt, Nicole Kidman, Halle Berry etc).

flops are cool. i love flops.

i'm going to have to agree with the poster on this one. cage has def. lost his mojo. sean penn even thinks so.

speaking of penn, (and depp for that matter) these guys REALLY need to stop smoking cigarettes. i'd really hate to lose these two very fine actors at an early age due to chain smoking.

Cage's worldwide box office for the National Treasure series would disagree with you bladrunner! (I'm not commenting about the quality of the movies themselves, just his box office power).

this "box office gross" thing has ruined movies imo. it has clearly gotten out of hand, and should have nothing to do with whether or not nic cage still has the acting skills that he portrayed in his earlier movies. if he were a musician, he would clearly be branded a "sellout". but...big box office says he's great so i guess he is. it is just sad that as a human race, we have become so "top 40."

Making money at the box office doesn't necessarily equal being a good actor. Cage is one of those actors whose appeal escapes me, I don't find him charasmatic and I find most of his performances to be terrible. Frankly if he wasn't Francis Ford Coppola's nephew I doubt he would have gotten a second look when he started out in the industry.

Meh some actors just get lucky. Sadly Cage has ended up in some stinkers lately. Ghost Rider,Next, and National Treasure 2.

Come to think of it Jason Statham has been in some crappy movies lately. War,The Bank job,and Chaos sucked. I'm hoping Transporter 3 will be good but since the guy behind the hitman flop is involved I doubt it.

IMO thats how Statham's career has always been. A lot of crap with a few good movies here and there.

Rangoonth,

"The Bank Job" is the best film Statham has made, and it's one I liked quite a lot. Of course, it's also the least "Stratham"-like because he doesn't beat up somebody every two minutes.

Cage, on the other hand, has made several films I've enjoyd: "Moonstruck," "Leaving Las Vegas," "Red Rock West," "The Rock," "Face/Off," "National Treasure," "Adaptation." It's just that he's made so many bad or mediocre films in between, it's hard to remember the better ones.

I have to agree with "bladerunner1" here.

Most of you guys sound like those ignorant studio execs comparing box office results. Same goes with that article about other actors mentioned above, based entirely only in box office returns.
That's the same survey system that is responsible for all the crap is out there. Something different comes on, it succeeds, and people copy it until the next new thing. Take for example "The Dark knight". It's a good film, it's not great, but its good, over the next few years superhero movies will all share the same elements, Dark, more down to earth and with actual characters for a change. WB already said they're re-booting the superman series a-la batman.

Somebody mentioned brat pitt and sean penn above. Brat pitt starred in some really good movies the last few years (apart from ocean's) Jesse james is a very good film, so is babel. And sean penn did a great job behind the camera for "Into the wild", one of the best films i've seen this season.
Some actors do like to do some more personal projects than dive into the block-buster-crap-scripts they get fed with all the time. They still make a decent living out of it.

You guys speak as if box office is a great factor for liking or disliking a movie. Specially in this day of age, box office success doesn't always translate into a good movie.
