Hey, I just replaced my Onkyo TX-SR600 in the livingroom with the 605. I'm so far impressed with this reciever. The only thing I can complain about is that of the upconversion feature. I don't understand why Onkyo would allow this feature to downconvert to 720p? I'm baffled. Other than that is sounds great and and has enough inputs to suit my needs. I got a great deal from a friend for $325. Only one year of use on it. I see that it's going on eBay for $299 for a refurb, so I think I did ok. Other than the lacking HDMI ports, the Second HD DVD deck and the HDTV box will do. Anything else could be hooked up through component at 720p... Anyone else own one of these. It sure is a upgrade from the 600, but no where near the 875. Reaggie ia definately impressed at $325!
BTW anyone need a good second reciever? Its a Onkyo TX-SR600 is good shape? New remote with learning features(I used a Harmony the whole time I owned it) and manuals? I better shut up before I get in trouble.

for that price i would have added more and picked up a 705. (which i have)
-on another note, what onkyo needs to do is make another unit to appeal to HD folks, keep the hdmi's and remove some of the other connections to keep the price down. i mean some of the other stuff is useful, but so many for the hdmi hungry ppl. i dont think is neccesary.

Going to the 705 would have cost me a another $200. I got a great deal to replace the upstairs peice. the wife would shoot me. I got shot once when I bought the 875 for the theatre... The 705 would have been overkill. Damn the 605 is overkill for upstairs!

Yeah, the Onkyo 605, 705, and 805 downconvert a 1080 video signal to a 720 output if you connect the signal using only component cables. If you use an HDMi cable, you'll get the full 1080 resolution output. My 705 has three HDMi inputs, so it works fine for the cable box, Panasonic BD50, and Toshiba A35, all using HDMi cables.

It appears that Onkyo released new models, instead of 5's at the end, there are 6's...here's an example for the new TX-SR706...and the new 606 model has 4 HDMI inputs!...
...now I can actually save for that...how well would the Magnavox work with this?
I was thinking on getting the S6100 for $600 (link and this price on Circuit City, go figure...and no interest for 36 months, good deal)...I'm starting a tighter budget, so this could be an easy solution for me...

The Magnavox works really well, on the 875 and the 605! Really for a cheaper line player, it has all of the bell and whistles of the full priced units. Also if you are looking at the Sony 300 or 301, turn them away... Buy at least the 350 or the pana 30.
