Hi guys I'm ready to buy a blu-ray player but I don't know which one is the best for video and sound. I know a lot of people like the PS3 because they get more bang for their buck but I'm not looking to use the PS3 as a game machine(I have an XBOX 360 and a Wii already). If it is the best one then I'm cool with having a game machine for a blu-ray player, but if the Sony S350 or the Panasonic is better then I'd rather get the one with the best picture. Thanks for you input!!!

The Pansonic 50 so far is the best stand alone player. However the Magnavox at walmart is a great player. I picked one up the other day and so far have nothing to complain about. It has surpassed the PS3 on many levels. The picture quality is great, however not having multichannel output may be a deterent. But I have a reciever that has many coax digital inputs, so all is not lost! My receiver breaks down the current new digital formats. It plays all the disks that I have thrown at is, and the upconversion is ok. I still use my Toshiba XA2 for UC. The Blu-Ray playback is 10 to 15 seconds faster than the PS3. So for $248 you can't pass it up. I paid $197 for mine, but who's counting. Try it out, it's worth a try...

Hey Reaggie, you didn't call it Magnacrock or what ever name you gave it.
So Eddie are you saying that you have one of these BD players?

Here is a rundown of pros and cons concerning the PS3:

Pros:
- Fair Price
- Profile 1.1 and 2.0 compatible
- Fast load times and good picture quality
- You get a free game machine

Cons:
- No IR for remote and IR dongle does not work that well
- No 5.1/7.1 analog for HD audio
- No Bitsream support for external HD audio decoding (Big issue for me personally)
- Massive power consumption compared with a normal Blu-ray player
- Form factor, it does not fit well with other HIFI products

Other players to consider includes:
Panasonic BDMP-30 - Review - ($299 from Amazon)
Sony BDP-S350 ($349 from Amazon)

Yup that's right tony! I still call it the Magnacrox Pooh-Ray player!!!

Henning,

You are right on so many levels. It all boiled down to the Audio formats, Power hungryness, Bulkyness of design and I though anyways a lack of PQ. It reminded me of a Computer displaying a HD screen. Weird but, the video output isn't as good as I thought it would be. The lack of remote support was annoying as well, especially for the Harmony user.

agreed with henning,

also besides the panny, consider the Samsung 1500, which is still pretty low on amazon. which is the one i have, and looks kind of sexy.
