Did I miss something?

RE: Ebert, Roper, (& Phillips)

At the end of the last show, Roper mentioned this was his last show.

"Disney, the studio has decided to take the program... ...in a new direction."
"...the thumbs will return. We are discussing possibilities, and plan to continue the show's tradition..."

Hopefully they will be back soon.

yeah, this happened a while ago. they couldn't agree on a new contract with disney, so they're going to start a new show elsewhere while disney will find new critics to replace them for its own show.

AFAIK, the last "new" show was August 16. They've been showing reruns since then (two week's ago featured The Dark Knight and this past weekend's Tropic Thunder). I believe the new guys (Ben Mankiewicz and Ben Lyons) are debuting next week or the week after, I forget which one.

Fortunately, Ebert has the legal rights to the thumbs up/down business, so if he and Roeper return with a new show, they'll be using the old gimmick. Meanwhile, Disney seems to want to take the old show in an "Entertainment Tonight" direction. (Thumbs down)

Either ways, reading Ebert's reviews on his website is what I do mostly...

Once they get their new show going, it makes me wonder if they will pan every Disney movie that comes out.
