A few weeks back I got the 2-disc collector's edition of Lawrence of Arabia on BB for $10...today I finally got a chance to watch the movie (love those holidays), and I began having problems when Lawrence and the other soldier talk with Faisal, and just after Sherif enters the tent, the video freezes, and the only thing I can do is forward it two chapters.

I did try rebooting the DVD player, but it didn't work, and I even tried playing it on my PC, and the same thing would happen, it freezes and goes on really slow...I've read that this happens, but I want to know if any of you had the same problem I don't want to return it and have the same problem. Thanks!

I believe I have the same version (canvas on the outside, right?), though I do not have the same problem. It sounds like you must have a defective disc, and, since that edition has been out for so long, if it were a widespread issue, I'm sure it would've been dealt with a while back.

Still, good luck with your eventual replacement. I'm looking forward to this one in high-def for sure.

Edit: I want to point out that I have had an issue similar to this with the HD-DVD of Dante's Peak. The disc was in perfect, brand-new shape, but refused to play at certain intervals. I believe it's one of the more common defect symptoms, though I haven't encountered it that often.

that might be an old pressing, and old pressings are more likely to fall prey to disc rot than newer runs.

what did you get, the "special edition" with a lot of extras or the superbit?

The special 'cloth' edition...I'll try to go today to BB (and hopefully get The Office S4 boxset) and get a replacement...I have read similar issues, but like you said, it could be just a faulty disc, a first for me, I had never had any problems with any discs. Thanks!

Sadly, I was really enjoying the movie and it bothered me that I had to skip those chapters that I stopped watching the movie...it was unfolding majestically, and it looked beautiful...a blu-ray must, is a very rich movie...lets hope I can get the replacement today...

Disc rot? What is disc rot? I've never heard of that before. I have a lot of older dvds. Do I have to worry about them deteriorating now?

I store my dvds in a cool, dry place to prevent warpage, etc. Are there other storage tips to avoid the "rot"?

Thanks!

disc rot occurs when the the two plastic halves of a disc (such as a cd, dvd, blu-ray, etc.) aren't sealed properly, and moisture gets inside the disc. this eventually causes a disc to be unplayable.
