"The Bourne Supremacy" has a much better car chase than the one in "The Bourne Identity".

I really think you have to go with the scope of reality when it comes to the best "car chase" in film history. There have been massive, over produced car chases that certainly present a decent euphoria of excitement. Many of them include intense explosions, dramatic rollovers, the use of automatic weapons in broad daylight, and the usual harming of innocent bystanders. They may all look good, and even be a little seat griping, but by the end, you just have to shake your head and say to yourself, "that'd never really happen". I know I have seen enough reality cop shows that prove car chases are not as if they are in the movies. Sure, they're intense and full of danger, but they are not full of cool stunts and explosions, like in the movies.

With that being said, I'm going to have to agree with John that "Bullitt" is still one of the best filmed car chases in movie history. There quite simply is nothing that beats Steve McQueen and a couple muscle cars racing through the brutal streets of San Francisco. Sure, there are stunts performed in the chase but they were far more believable than the car chases of today. And for those of you who think this particular car chase is overrated, then that is exactly the point because it’s not overproduced. As I said, think of the scope of reality and you can see why the “Bullitt” car chase is highly admired by many film buffs.

For my second choice, I’d pick “Duel”. Certainly is not the highly, overproduced car chase but it does have an intense realistic feel about it. Sure, it’s about a giant ghost semi-truck chasing down Dennis Weaver through the middle of who-knows-what desert. Maybe it doesn’t count as a car chase to some people, but it is a “vehicle” chasing another “vehicle”, so it counts in my book. In fact, that’s all the movie gives us is one big chase, and then a final showdown of wits. It really doesn’t have massive explosions or accelerated speeds, but it does a great job in delivering the uncertain realities that many of us deal with on the road. I’d have to say, if Spielberg was attempting to make me frightened of semi-trucks, then he did a wonderful job on me! Thanks, Steven, I’ll be sure to mail my psychiatrist bill.

In "Duel", the cars and the drivers weren't evenly matched. Plus, it was just two cars!

"Minority Report" did not have a true car chase, even if there were a lot of chases and cars in it.

The only thing about Lethal Weapon 4, Matrix Reloaded (yes I'm being a hypicrite 8)), Bad Boys II, and T3 is that they're more concentrated on action and not the finesse of an intricate and complex chase sequence masterfully orchestrated.

Yes Bad Boysll was real good. Also" The Rock" isn't too bad. And Terminator 3 is also pretty intense with cars, motorcycles and a crane! Musiccoop

Hey posters5, I think he planned to shoot one in The Terminal, but there was no place for it in the airport. It probably would have seemed out of place.

j/k :D

Wasn't there sort of one in Minority Report? Not a full-fledged "chase," but Tom Cruise hopping around on all of those futuristic cars and stuff when he escaped form the Pre-Cog Pre-Crime Police Dept. or whatever it was called.

Oh...and Duel....one big long chase!!

I also remembered a few more last night while trying to sleep.....Lethal Weapon 4, with the Pontiac Grand Prix on the highway, chasing the black Benz, which led to a cool fight on a big truck's bed.

Also, Bad Boys II, where boats and stuff were flying and cop cars were exploding all around Will Smith's Ferrari.

And lastly, Vanishing Point (1971 version) with the Dodge Challenger. Basically, the whole movie is a long chase, based on a true event. I think it was remade with Viggo Mortensen as the driver. Never saw that one.

Enjoy.....

This thread reminds me...Spielberg hasn't really done a pure car chase, has he? Sure, there are chases in the "Indiana Jones" movies, but a "nitty gritty down in the city streets" car chase? He needs to shoot one--immediately.

The car chase in "Ronin" is one of my favorites. Albeit not anywhere near as exciting as the scenes in Bourne 2, I still think the car chase scene in Ronin with the Audi S8 was AWESOME!!

My vote would probably go to "Ronin" as the overall best car chase. "Bullitt" was excellent as well. I also have a soft spot for any Bond car chase involving the classic Aston Martin DB5. The chase in GoldenEye between the DB5 and the Ferrari 355 was great.

I think the best car chase is still waiting to be filmed. And then when it comes, the best car chase will come after it, topping that one, and that is how I feel it shall continue until movies end. Which I pray I'm not around to see.
