IGN reports that SONY, Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are in pre-production for shooting Spiderman 4 and 5 back2back.
Apparently the studio won't recast the role of Mary Jane Watson and is currently on the lookout for a second female role.

They should use Gwen, oh wait they already used her up as a cheap plot device in part 3.

I hate to be a spoil sport, but Sony is contemplating shooting them simultaneously. It is not definitive as of right now. A lot of things have to happen for both movies to go at the same time: scripts must be done, cast for both must sign on, locations, props, costumes, makeup...all need to be ready for two different major H'wood productions at the same exact time.
The last two franchises who shot back to back didn't exactly come out as quality, now did they? (Matrix and Pirates...)

Pirates 2 was a great popcorn movie...3? Nevermind...
Anyways, why did it take for them soooo long to get this done? I mean, really, just because of Spidey 3 being bad? It still made "millions" at the BO...

Didn't Verbinski say that the idea of shooting two movies together sounds like a great idea? Until you actually do it, that the logistics are way too complicated.
I think unless you have a LOTR situation where the principal cast is willing to move to New Zealand for the duration of the production it isn't really worth it.

They should stop making anymore sequels. The story has nowhere else to go.

Unfortunately Tim telling a Studio to say no to a big pile of money is almost impossible.

^ Hence why I specified "quality."
Jason, quality > profit
